We are staying in a vacation home on November and I'm wondering what everyone does with leftover food they might have at the end of their vacation home/condo stay? Do you pack up non perishable things and take them home with you? Leave them for the housecleaning folks to take or throw away? We stayed in a vacation home once before, but we met up with a friend from Florida on our last day and gave her all of our stuff! I don't think she'll be around this trip, so I'm wondering what to do with any leftover food. I hate to see food go in the trash. Any suggestions are appreciated!

some housekeeping can't take the food - they could be fired.

so if you want them to take it and not throw away write them a letter (English and Spanish)

but it will probably be thrown away anyway - some people don't want to take a chance on their jobs - especially in this market.

We asked one of the neighbours if they wanted the rest of our food. She was more than happy to take anything that we had.

In the villa we stay in, the instructions say to throw away any opened food, and that we can leave anything unopened and it will be taken to a food pantry.

we just threw it away. but, we never over bought. so there wasnt much to toss.

we didn't buy much but we did have to throw some things away...half a small jar of peanut butter and jelly...that kind of stuff. any snack type items we put in ziplocks and divided up between the adults on the trip and took in our carry ons for snacks at the airport and on the flight.

we did have a few wine coolers and coronas and a lime left, we offered that to the people who pulled the trash, they were very thankful and took it. i could see in the cab of their truck that they "salvaged" a few half empty cases of bottled water and gatoraid from others who were leaving that day as well.

oh, i also left our dish soap, laundry soap and trash bags for the next guest. no need to toss them.

That's a good idea about divvying up the snacks for the plane ride. I'll need to remember to buy/bring Ziplock bags! We will try not to have too many leftovers, but sometimes it is hard to guess how much will get eaten. There are 9 of us traveling together (three kids), so it is tough to figure out how much to buy! Anything unopened we'll just leave on the counter and the cleaners can decide what to do with it! Thanks!

We planned pretty well and didn't have much left over. We threw away anything that was opened, but left the rest (some beer, wine coolers, cans of soda, paper products, trash bags, etc.).

The company we rent from used to collect unopened food and delivered it to the needy. They didn't do it last year and told us to throw it away because they were told by an attorney there was a liability concern.

Last year at WH at the end of our stay, we gave any unopened food and drinks (there was some soda and water bottles) to the gate security staff. It was gratefully recieved! I wasn't sure what would happen if we left it in the condo - I didn't want it thrown out!!
