INTERESTING FACTS

The Wonders of Life Pavilion is 100,000 square feet, the dome is 50,000 square feet and the dome is 65 feet high. The entrance features a 75 foot tall DNA double helix!

Forty passengers can ride in each of the four 26-ton Body Wars simulators resembling those used in pilot training -- which provide the sensation of fast movement. All the excitement of a thrill ride is created by combining this movement with the 70mm motion picture footage projected inside the simulator.

The Body Wars film was directed by Leonard Nimoy, known worldwide for his portrayal of Mr. Spock in the "Star Trek" television series and films and as director of the Touchstone comedy hit, "Three Men and a Baby."

To ensure the authenticity of Body Wars, a prominent team of advisers specializing in the teaching and practice of medicine was consulted.

Look for now famous actors Tim Matheson and Elisabeth Shue in the Body Wars film.

Actors in Cranium Command include such well-known comedians as Dana Carvey, Jon Lovitz, Bobcat Goldthwaite and Kevin Nealon. Also featured are Charles Grodin and George Wendt.

MetLife ended its sponsorship of the Wonders of Life pavilion in June 2001.

The Wonders of Life Pavilion in Epcot basically closed as of January 5, 2004. (Sports Fitness Area - become involved with your favorite sport in this electronically enhanced exercise area.)

The live entertainment in Epcot is worth the price of admission alone. First, for those who love the characters, there are plenty to see in Epcot. The Character Connection in Future World is a great place to start. Follow that with various meet and greets in the countries.

Walk through the Epcot turnstiles in the morning and head towards Test Track/ Mission Space or Soarin' and The Seas with Nemo and Friends. Your ears will awaken to what might just be the sounds of Trash Cans! That's right, the JAMMitors with their comedic cacophony and percussive artistry are a favorite with kids!

Over in World Showcase, you can spend your entire day going from country to country and with cultural experiences from around the Globe. Beginning in Mexico, enjoy the beautiful costumes and traditional folk music of the Mariachi Cobre. Look for them in the outside courtyard or inside the shopping area.

Norway often has folk musicians, like the fiddle and ensemble of Spelmanns Gledje, while at China you can be mesmerized by the Dragon Legend Acrobats and enjoy the folk music of Si Xian inside the Temple of Heaven.

The Outpost hosts the musical trio, Wassalou, as well as Orisi Risi who perform drums and share African folklore.

In Germany, poke your head inside the Biergarten restaurant to catch a glimpse of Oktoberfest Musikanten, the delightful "oompah" band that treats the audience to singing saws and alpenhorn. There is sometimes seating inside for spectators who aren't dining there (especially in the afternoons).

Is your video camera ready? Be sure to arrive on time for the World Showcase Players, who also performin the United Kingdom and Italy. In the United Kingdom, they have adapted Shakespeare into audience participation comedies, not to mention their hilarious version of the search for the Holy Grail! Be on the lookout for the wildly funny, improvisational World Showcase Players.

You may also find the juggler Sergio in Italy and in France, the Serveur Amusant!

At the American Adventure, the Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corps bring you back to the 1700s with both costume design and sounds. The Voices of Liberty have been entertaining Epcot guests for many, many years. The a capella ensemble has a full repertoire of traditional American folk songs. During the holidays, the Voices fill the atrium of the American Adventure with a collection of traditional song.

There is almost always something going on at the America Gardens Theatre. Located across from the American Adventure, you can rest your feet for a while and be entertained by any variety of song and/or dance companies. At Epcot's springtime Flower and Garden Festival, "Flower Power" acts from the 1960s, like Davy Jones of the Monkees and Arlo Guthrie, perform the hits that made them famous. Summers usually feature a themed concert series. During the fall's Food and Wine Festival, a variety of concerts with the theme "Eat to the Beat" take place.

From clear across the World Showcase lagoon come the sounds of Japanese drummers Matsuriza and children will love the Japanese Candy Artist, Miyuki.

Tired yet? There is a lot more entertainment in store for you! Have an early dinner in Morocco's Restaurant Marrakesh and listen to traditional music and enjoy the belly dancing! Outside you can enjoy the Middle Eastern flavored Mo' Rockin'!

What would a trip to the United Kingdom be like without the British Invasion? They play Beatles and other English tunes from the '60s. And inside the pub, there's usually a pianist or perhaps some strolling entertainment, too.

ast but certainly far from least you'll arrive in Canada, where you absolutely MUST make time to listen to a set by Celtic rockers Off Kilter! (We love them so much, they warrant their own page!) If you are looking for more traditional folk music, be sure to catch Fidler's Joy.

ILLUMINATIONS CRUISES

Breathless (shown above and to the right) is the motor boat named after the Dick Tracy character. It is a 24-foot ChrisCraft reproduction of a 1930 runabout powered by MerCruiser 350 cubic inch engine, reaching speeds of 50 mph! It has bench seats and can accommodate 6 guests maximum. The boat is not covered.

Cost for Breathless for IllumiNations starts at $275 (plus tax) for up to 6 guests and includes a driver.

NOTE: You can also ride on the Breathless during the day. Excursions depart from the marina daily 2:30 - 5:50 p.m. The price is $95 per 30 minutes.

Pontoon Boats -- Another option for an IllumiNations cruise is to rent a pontoon boat. The 21 foot long boat will accommodate a maximum of 10 guests. The pontoon has a canopy, is roomier, and has some drink holders. When you rent either a pontoon or The Breathless, it belongs to your party for the show; meaning the only people there will be the ones you've invited! The price for a pontoon IllumiNations Cruise starts at $275 + tax, for a maximum of 10 people. Cost includes a driver. Food and beverage items are available through Yacht Club Private Dining at 407-934-3160. You may not bring your own food or beverages on board.
