Ok, we're going to be heading down to Mickey's house in about a month and are just finalizing our loose ends and just need some opinions...

We like to spoil ourselves on vacation, and me being a car guy, I love to drive nice vehicles. Last year on our week in Disney (we had a week cruise afterwords) we rented a Hummer H2 from Hertz's Prestige Collection.

This year, we want something different. We did some research and found a few other car options available, but some are at less desirable companies (from past experience). So now's everyone's chance to vote on what we get and from where:

Dollar - Mercedes Benz E350
Dollar - Jaguar S-Type
Dollar - BMW 528
Hertz - Lincoln Navigator
Hertz - Cadillac Escalade
Hertz - Infiniti FX35
Hertz - Audi A6

Now, currently we have the MB E350 reserved, but Dollar is not my preferred company.

We would love to rent a Corvette, but we'd have this problem of luggage to deal with, which in a convertible, you'd be lucky to get a carry-on piece of luggage in the trunk.

So in the words of Legends of the Hidden Temple, the choice is your's and yours alone...please vote!

My practical side has to remind you of the fuel cost factor! http://www.fuelcostcalculator.com/ We usually figure that our rental cars are going to be at least one if not 2-3 years old.

I am not sure how I would vote just yet, but the gas is still a factor that can eat through a good chunk of the old vacation budget.

Fuel costs and the actual cost of the rental is no issue here. This vacation is actually running us about 50% less then last years amazingly enough.

The increase in fuel costs hasn't been a big factor for us in our day to day lives either. We work in the same company and drive a fairly fuel efficient Volvo S80 Turbo.

Even in the worst case, which would probably be a Hummer H2, the gas for a week of driving from MCO, around Disney and back to MCO (we are staying on property, but will rarely use Disney Transportation) will only be about one tank full. So at $4.00 a gallon for 30 gallons, the total would only be about $120.00 and thats assuming we use every drop of the 30 gallon tank and prices are still hovering at $4.00 a gallon.

I've found most of the Hertz Prestige Collection (what I usually rent when I travel for business) are less then a year old and have less then 10,000 miles. I think the worst I've driven is a FX35 with 12,000 miles on it and was about a year old.

Ok, fine, just blow the budget on the wheels! I still voted for the Infiniti. My boss drives one. I think it's a pretty neat ride for a roadtrip.

How come Porsche is not on the list? Ferrari?

I'm still dealing with the surprise of learning that Budget rents nice cars! LOL!

Can't help you much as I'm so not a Caddy fan. Never been big on Jags either.

I wish, but luggage would be an issue with the sports coupes/convertibles. If it were just me for a few days, I'd just pack lightly, but alas, its longer then a few days and its two of us.

The other problem is Orlando's choices for luxury car rentals is severly lacking...very few high end and most of them are in Miami. There are also valid reasons for this, Disney caters to the family market which is more budget conscious then the partying/beach/shopping market that Miami does.

I vote the Audi A6!

We've done that and it's a very nice car. We've also done the Jag but the A6 beats it hands down. We always visit my mother in Venice Beach, a 2+ hour or so drive from Disney and usually rent a nice car so we're comfortable there and back.

Now, I just voted for the Jag (pronounced jag-U-ar of course) -- very cool car IMHO. Have never driven an A6 (bad Audi experience 30 years ago)

I'm SOOOOOO not a car person, but why is majority voting for the Infiniti? I had to look up what it looked like, and it doesn't impress me that much.

I voted for the Jag, also


Just an aside: my DH will never rent a car again. First time we did he had a mishap, so _all_ rental cars are jinxed for him, in his opinion.
