Just trying to figure out if this is even worth considering....I'm assuming not but figured I'd ask the experts.

We have a rental for BLT in September for 5 night. Right now it is a 2br Lake View. Perfect and dreamy.

Of course, hubby just came back with the "why didn't you book the theme park view with the little kids? They could watch the fireworks from the balcony and save us a lot of headache".... true, but that ain't free. And this is already pricey.

SOOOOO....WWYD? Is it even possible to upgrade an existing RENTED reservation (don't think the owner has any more points). I'm guessing this would require a transfer to their account, the room being open and then the hope that this all works out???? Or is it easier than that - I don't want to be a pest and I'm so happy to have the reservation.

Sadly, we aren't DVC owners so TOWL is out. But perhaps I can just convince him that the 4th floor at the Contemporary is just as good? Or we can simply STAY in the park to watch and let the kids fall asleep in the strollers on the way home? I know he is just worried because my 1 yr old doesn't like to wake up and he threw a royal crying fit last time we were there because I had to wake him up for PJs. Maybe he can just WEAR his PJs this time! hahahaha!

There is a possibility that there are still rooms open since you are going in September but you would have to talk with the person you rented from. If they don't have any additional points I would suggest dealing with what you have chosen as I know if I was renting and someone wanted to change in such a way that I would have to find other points I would say know. I would suggest asking them to put in a request for a North tower room with an even number- you might just get lucky with your view- otherwise you can always watch from the elevator area (although without music).

Theme Park and Standard views book up fast. You are only 5 months out. Very unlikely that it will be available, but you can check with the member. Some of the lake views have a fireworks view, request even number room, north side. I had it last month and it was awesome!

Great - thanks you guys! I'll just go ahead and request the North side.... and tell DH to pay attention during the PLANNING phase instead of waiting until this late in the game to have an opinion! Ha!

I know it will be a great trip - just wanted to be sure this was as much trouble as I thought it was before telling him too bad! :rotfl2:

I would definitely go with this suggestion if the owner is willing to put a reguest on you room for you. When we book lake views we always request even number north side now. We've been very lucky in getting our requests and you do get to see the fireworks while also having a nice view of the lake :goodvibes

A theme park view will cost you more money because the theme park view requires more points than the lake view. Unless you get a lake view that might see part of the MK. And that is just a request and not guaranteed.

Otherwise, watch the fireworks from the bridge that connect BLT to the Contemporary Resort.

But, never, never, never request an upgrade when you check in on a points reservation. You can't just pay extra to get it and the member could be charged extra points to get that upgrade. Then you would be in a pickle because you would owe them more money and they might have another reservation cancelled to upgrade your reservation.

I thought as long as you are staying at BLT you were allowed at the TOTW lounge???? I'm a member, so doesn't affect me.

It's a member perk, not a BLT guest perk. So you have to show a current KTTW for some WDW resort (including BLT), plus your DVC member card. No member card, no access.

As noted, you will be able to change the rental only if: (a) there is still theme park view availability for a 2BR for the same nights and that may not be the case, and (b) the rental you have allows the change or the owner is otherwise willing to do it.

What you might want to do is just put in a request through the owner for a room on the outer north wall which is lake view but has a view of MK when you look toward the left from the balcony. The request is not guaranteed but you have a chance of getting it Personally, I would not make the change you are contemplating. Theme park view is a mixed bag. During the day what you mostly see is the top of Space Mountain, the castle in the distance, the monorail, and a huge, ugly parking lot right below your room. Theme park view is good for one things, fireworks at night. Most of the lake views are actually among the most pleasant views there are at WDW. You get to look out at a huge lake, the old Discovery island and forests surrounding much of the lake in the distance. It is a pleasant view all day long.

I always put my little guys in P.J's when we go to the parks in the evenings....

Or let him sleep in his clothes. He's bitty, he might be sweaty but he's not going to be overly stinky like a teen would be. Dress him that day in comfy, non-buckled clothing, so sleeping is comfy, and you're golden.

The chances of being able to upgrade can be very slim to none. Last year we had a 2 bedroom BLT Lake View for two nights in September and I wait listed the Theme Park view for seven months and it never happened.
With the Lake View you can see the Electrical Water Pageant from your balcony.
