So this is random, but at the really nice places do they like card for alcohol? when I go in feb. I have like a couple months till i am 21 and like I just would like to order either a good glass of wine or beer that will complement and enhance my meal. Sorry its not that important but I was curious. I do not drink all often and only typically with good food. I mean at really nice places is it not bad manners to card?

I would expect that they'll card everywhere. I'm 28 and still get carded every time I order a drink, at Disney or elsewhere. It isn't a matter of manners - it is a matter of law. Disney especially has a lot to lose if they're caught serving minors. Can you imagine the press that would get?!?

Witnessed by my son at the Rose & Crown in September:
  • Two male guest ordered beer.
  • Server asked for ID.
  • Guests refused, claiming some perceived abridgement of their personal rights.
  • Disney security arrived.
  • Guests grudgingly produced ID, proving they were underage.
  • Guests were escorted from the restaurant.
So yes, like the law still applies, even like at WDW.

totally know where you are coming from. I used to work the other side of it when I worked at Olive Garden( not that I would consider that a nice place) but generally you push liquor sales because that makes more money

There's a big difference between pushing (legal) liquor sales to adults, and looking the other way when a minor tries to buy alcohol. Believe me, your server isn't going to risk the loss of their job just to pad the bill with a few drinks.

FL takes the underage drinking laws VERY seriously, and so does WDW. Don't even bother trying to order.

Look at it as a reason to plan another WDW trip for after your 21st birthday! :)

They'll ask. DH and I are 26 and 25, and we were carded everywhere we went. Except once at Mama Melrose's, when they brought us free champagnes because it was our anniversary. From what I've seen, Disney is VERY strict about minors and alcohol!

Are you for real??? It's LIKE Illegal!! Do you think they would mind if I robbed a bank near Disney??? I mean it is DISNEY....don't you think it would be bad manners to mind?!?!?!? This MUST be a joke!!!

I was 28 on our visit this summer, and I got carded at California Grill, Narcoossees, Jiko and several other really nice restaurants. At the Cali Grill I forgot to bring my passport and had to search through my bag til I thankfully found my driver's licence! Phew!

They will ask for proof of age anywhere you go in Disney. They carded the whole table when my family went to Jiko - including my Mum who is 55 :rotfl: She did not know how to take it - this never happens in the UK!

Don't risk being thrown out of the restaurant - many of the nice TS restaurants can do "virgin" versions of most cocktails, and often have nice juices etc you can order instead of wine/beer.

Don't worry you'll be "of age" soon enough and will think it's "bad manners" NOT to id you. lol:rotfl:

My daughter-inlaw, who was 22 at the time, was carded at Ohana, and unfortunately forgot her ID, so they would not serve alcohol to her. The CM was very nice about it, but hey rules are rules.

In the OP's defense, the Olive Garden around here offered me alcohol when I was 17, and in no way did I look 21. I never tried to order, so I don't know if I would have been carded. If that's what happens a lot around where you live, I can see the question being asked.
To the OP: I still get carded for many things here, in that I never surpassed the "I-look-slightly-illegal" look. This includes lotto tickets. I haven't tried to drink in WDW in awhile, but I believe I have been carded every time. BTW, the last time I went and ordered alcohol, I was 24. I don't think it's worth the risk ;)

Actually in some places I got carded every time I ordered a drink, even if I'd already had one with that meal! One night I got carded 3 times for wine within one meal!

My husband and I are 25 years old and on our most recent trip in September for free dining we were only carded once. That was at Biergarten, the buffet in Germany. Funny thing was that neither of us had our id's and we were unable to order anything. That was the one thing my husband was looking forward to! We had both wanted to try the beer sampler but since our id's were back in the room safe at Pop Century that didn't happen. Not the end of the world but we were a little bummed. For the rest of the trip we made sure we had our id's just in case.

On the other hand, I've only been carded twice in the past six years!

Course, I'm now 41 years old, travel with children, and have a husband who is grey at the temples. While I look young for my age, people stopped beleiving I was younger than 25 a number of years ago......

Disney does card pretty consistantly if you look like you even MIGHT be under aged. I still carry four cards when I go to Disney everywhere - even if I'm carrying nothing else - my park hopper, my room key, a credit card, and my drivers license - I didn't need the drivers license this past trip, but I have needed it in recent enough memory.

No it is not "bad manners" it is the LAW

I'm 21 and look like young.

I was not carded at my dinner at California Grill or Jikos, but i was with my father who looks like he is 50 so they might have not thought I was his daughter (well the California Grill manager did as I talked with him for a while abotu the seminar he gave on Sparkling Wines as we were waiting to be sat)

Victoria & Albert's also did not card me for my wine pairing in October. However, I've been going there since I was 7. I'm also having my Wedding Reception there in February where I can't really remember if I faxed them a copy of my DL or not. When I there in January, I was asked if I wanted wine and told them unfortunately I can't since I don't turn 21 until July so they could have remember that. So I think it was for those reasons more so that I wasn't carded.

Every other place carded me. In fact, I got carded twice from the same Poly bartender.
