Random metal detectors at DL

I heard about this on the radio this morning and it doesn't bother me one bit, tbh. I know Disney goes through a lot to try to keep the parks safe and I appreciate that.

I agree; it is better to be subject to a slightly longer line in order to be safer - I also appreciate that Disney is doing this!

Hopefully they will require anyone wearing cargo pants to go through the detectors. On several occasions I had to open every little pocket and zipper of my purse for inspection, while a guy next to me wearing cargo pants walks on through.

On touring plans it says that guests over the age of 14 will not be allowed to wear costumes including the not so scary halloween party!

As for the metal dectetors, I'm tossed. On the one hand, it should screen out any crazy idiot trying to do harm at the parks. On the other hand, it also keeps any law abiding concealed carrier from protecting my family should a crazy idiot get through and, god forbid, open fire. Per statistics, the places most prone to gun violence are the places that already outlawed guns or created "no gun zones" to begin with. I've never carried at Disney, but I've always felt safer because I know people who have. But that's just my perspective on things.

Knowing that people have sneaked guns into Disneyland makes you feel safer? That is, to put it mildly, a very interesting perspective.

The problem I see is that those even longer lines they are causing are ripe targets for these nut-job terrorists. Disney needs to employ measures to reduce those lengthy lines or risk creating the target they are trying to avoid.

There are many ways to easily bypass a metal detector. This is just for show so people "feel" better. Even the Department of Justice says " A metal detector is only as good as the operator overseeing its use."

My understanding is it is nearly impossible to get a conceal permit in California. If it was easier, I'd totally do it. We carry at home, and DH feels "naked" not carrying it when we travel.

My DH and I saw their show last year ( FANTASTIC BTW ) and it's very true.
I just had to say how jealous I am as a longtime fan , but was awesome we got to do the meet and greet after the show.

Times change regardless and the reality is the world is not the same as it was , again this is where we have to educate ourselves and choose what's best for us.

Because things that intrude on others' personal space can be highly annoying. No matter how much you try, those bubbles are going wherever they want. They can't be controlled.

It would be very easy for someone to get a gun into DLR -- he or she just puts it in the pocket of his/her cargo pants. I have never seen security ask to look into the pockets of cargo pants. That's why I said I hope they make anyone wearing cargo pants go through the detector.

It really isn't that hard to get a CCW in CA. I know people in GatorChris and my county's area who have gotten them.

That said you cannot carry on DIsneyland property. It is private property. Disneyland specifically says "No weapons." Thus you can't carry there. The biggest reason why? If they allow you to carry on their property and something goes wrong (ie you shoot someone, gun goes off accidentally) Disney would be the deep pocket. I actually have a friend going thru this now. He allowed someone on his property with a CCW, the guy accidentally shot someone, and within 10 days of the shooting, the person shot, regardless of their friendship, already has an attorney calling to set up the suit. My friend didn't even know about the incident right away. It just happened on his property, and he will now be sued for something in the area of a million dollars. And he wasn't there, he didn't shoot the guy, he didn't even know they'd be on his property.

We live in a county in CA where it is pretty easy to get a CCW. Most of the people we know have CCW's or are in the process of getting one. So not impossible.

We lived in Alaska in the 80's and it was legal for people to open carry. It was not unusual to see a guy with his gun on his side around town/in line at the grocery store. Probably isn't the same anymore. It never bothered me. ETA:So, I guess you can say it does make me feel safer knowing some people are carrying. We don't have little ones, but I still like the bubble guns! I don't mind bubbles invading my personal space, now people, that's another story.

Not impossible, but they make it difficult. Lots of background checks and a looooonggg wait. And I sympathize with your DH. I'd rather be able to protect my family than place a hope that everybody's a good guy, and for the bad guys, be happy that the LAPD might be able to catch the criminal....once they show up to investigate an hour later.
