Random Disneyland Question

We are going on our first trip to Disneyland August 3-7. Been to WDW a few times. Do they do an opening show or choose a family of the day at Disneyland? My little girl loves the morning opening show and I wasnt sure if Disneyland did one so I thought I would consult the experts on this board.

Disneyland doesn't have the opening show that WDW does where all the characters arrive on the train. They do have the Disneyland Band come and play at the gates and sometimes Alice or a few other characters will be with them. They have a show in front of the castle around 10 or 11 I think with the band and a bunch of characters and the speech Walt gave on opening day that is pretty cool.

The last 2 times we did EMH at DCA in June and October of 2013 they picked a family from the lines who did a countdown to the opening of the front gates. There were no characters or songs, but it was cute and everyone counted down together.

We were at the parks last week. We only made it to DL once at opening (during our MM) and there didn't seem to be a special show. However, my girls loved the Royal theater shows (Beauty and the Beast and Tangled) and Mickey and the Magical Map was also super! We lined up for the Royal theater shows about half an hour before the show.
