Rancho del Zocalo

Just don't get anything w/ flour tortillas if you're used to the real thing. They are so paste-y and cold I couldn't eat my meal last time I went!

I'm a fan of the salad station at Rancho del Zocalo. The two salads are made to order--tostada salad or Hacienda chicken caesar--so you can customize it as you like. In my case, it's a chicken caesar, easy on the dressing and hold the radishes. :goodvibes

For iced tea drinkers, Rancho del Zocalo still has fresh brewed iced tea--not fountain or Gold Peak machines. And if you do get a fountain drink, keep your receipt and you can get a refill. The CMs at the cash registers are usually good about telling me this when I'm paying.

Late to this thread with my opinion, but to me Zocalo is Tex-Mex, kind of like a quick service version Chevy's (I think there are Chevy's in Utah:confused3). The food is pretty tasty, but definitively American style Mexican, nothing to write home about, but the burritos and salads are decent and filling and my mexican DH doesn't reject it ...

Taco is generally in a crisp corn tortilla shell (you know tortilla chips?) Sometimes they are 'soft shell' which is a flour tortilla. They can come as lots of variety. Chicken, beef, shrimp..etc.

Burrito is generally beans (sometimes refried, sometimes just beans..either black or pinto) and whatever the particular restaurant puts in a soft tortilla. Cheese is usually involved...

Taquito is beef (I'm not sure they do other meats) rolled in a tortilla and then fried (someone please correct this one if I'm wrong..my husband loves them but I don't get them often)

Enchelada is sorta open to interpretation depending on where you go. Some places put beans and rice in them. Cheese enchelada is a favorite of a lot of people. Just cheese in a flour tortilla and then smothered with sauce (green chile, red pepper..etc) Lots of times they do meat and cheese in an enchelada..the main point being that this item is smothered in sauce and sometimes cheese.

Don't know on Tostada

Carne Asada is Spanish for Steak

Pico De Gallo is basically onions, tomatoes, lime juice, cilantro, jalapeno...making up a fresh salsa. Yummmmmm

Sorry, that's food pet peeve of mine. A real enchilada would never be made with flour tortillas. Pure blasphemy!

We here there at least once per vacation to the resort. And we three to four times a year. Not as good as home cooked mexican food. But way, way better than Taco Bell. Heck, Jack in the Box has better tacos than Taco Bell.

I've never had an enchilada made in flour tortillas.....at least not when dining out, when dining at others' homes I've had them that way but they aren't very good. The cheese enchiladas at RDZ are corn tortillas. :) And I agree, enchiladas should never be made with flour torillas. :)

Enchiladas are corn tortillas filled with cheese or various meats, covered in either a green or red sauce.

Tostada is a fried corn tortilla flat, with beans, usually meat of choice, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese.

Burrito is usually beans, rice, a choice of meats or veggies rolled into a tortilla.

Taco can be soft or hard. Hard shelled tacos are in a corn tortilla, soft ar ein flour. Fillings are usually a meat, lettuce and cheese.

Taquitos (or flautas) are a small amount of a meat rolled in a corn tortilla and fried.

Chimichanga is similar to a burrito, except it is deep fried.

Tamale is corn masa filled with a meat/sauce and steamed.

Carne Asada is thin steak grilled and sliced.
