Rancho del Zocalo

:thumbsup2
Ambiance is fantastic at night! One of my favorites other than Cafe Orleans while F! is happening. :thumbsup2

I love, love their tostada salad. As others have said, its basically a taco salad. I like it because they make it fresh when you order it, so you can get whatever you want on it. I get it without the vegies, as my stomach can't handle the onions, and my husband doesn't eat cheese, so he gets his without cheese. Fresh and delicious. My tradition is always to try and make it my first meal in the park. I'm looking forward to eating there again in Feburary!! :cool1:

Our family loves this place. The food is good, and we love sitting by Big Thunder Mountain! We love the look and feel of the restraunt!! It is nice for a change!

How do you pronounce "Zocalo"

is it zo - cal - o
or zoc - a -lo

Thanks!

Yikes, that scares me. There a place here in town that I get sick at too everytime I eat there. Not super sick but an upset stomach. You'd think I'd learn. I am thinking they might put a spice in that just doesn't sit well. :confused3
It's always possible... I'm sensitive to nutmeg and it does a number on my stomach. Most of the time I can't even tell that it was in the dish.

I learned the hard way not to eat the red sauce and get on a roller coaster. Ugh!

But we love to eat there at least once during the trip. It is so much fun to sit outside and listen to BTMRR thundering by. And the portions are big enough that two light eaters or two children could easily share an entree. And the chips...:cloud9: So good!

The menu looks pretty good and semi-diverse. Is it authentic or Taco Bellish?

:thanks:

We love that place! They even have a gluten free menu for my mom! It reminds me of a taco truck. A big step up from Taco Bell but not quite a sit down quality :stir:

Ditto. The look and feel of the place are great. One of the best in DL. The food is good by DL standards. Much better than Taco Bell. Equivalent to Del Taco.

Does anyone know if they still have the mahi mahi grilled taco's? It was the special when we were there in June. I ate them 3 times, loved them!

Authentic is an oft overused word when it comes to food and means different things to different people.

Rancho del Zocalo is better than some fast food places in Mexico, worse than others. It is certainly better than Taco Bell, but no where near as good as you can get 15 minutes south of Disneyland in Santa Ana.

I'm certainly not expecting Los Sanchez quality and I'm not a huge fan of fast food Mexican though Del Taco does makes a dang good egg and cheese burrito.

Thanks everyone. It's on the list. :thumbsup2

...Of course, I won't refer you to DIS'er deejdigsdis' Trip Report from earlier this year, in which she describes an experience at RDZ that had her (and her sister) backing slowly away from the table because a huge roach (you know, the giant outdoor kind) was marching across their tabletop. It was hiding in between two plates, if I recall correctly, and her sister spotted its antennae poking up above the plates as it tromped merrily along.

It's bad enough to see one of those monsters on the ground, or in a planter, or in your home (if it finds its way inside), but in the middle of the table, right next to my food, would have probably sent me running into the night.

Beautiful Vanessa, thank you!!! :goodvibes

You are very welcome! I was thinking of you when I took the pic (it was about 9:30 p.m. and I was delighted that it was empty!) and then realized I really WANT some of those lanterns for my backyard!!!!! I've been pinning for them since I first saw them in Cabo :sad1:

Now THAT is authentic (based on my trips to interior Mexico when I was younger).
