We usually stay at the HO JO when doing our DL trips. It is a clean hotel within walking distance of the park and we have always been able to get the great RETRO rates. Well it seems things have changed at the HO JO and the rates seem a bit steep for what you get. I started looking at other options and I have found that the Ramada Plaza Hotel has a great rate and a full breakfast. My question is has anyone had any experience with this hotel? How fas of a walk is it to the park? What is the breakfast like? Any advice would be very helpful!:thumbsup2

There is a lot of love on the Dis boards for Ramada Maingate. It has a good bang for the buck, especially for families. Free rollaways if you are there early enough, a nice pool play area, free breakfast (not hot, but better than continental), free parking, and free wifi. Nice staff. Comfy beds. Vanity area outside the toilet/shower area (saves time). Less noise than some rooms in HOJOs too. The biggest negative that will be going on over the holidays is construction. The walking time is the same or maybe a few seconds less from Ramada, IMO.

Ramada Plaza is the one on Katella, yes? Also has an Indian restaurant for lunch and dinner? If that's the one you're talking about, I liked them. Tasty breakfast (in the same space as the Indian restaurant...they switch over from American breakfast to Indian food) and comfy rooms. IMO not too far to walk.

Oops, I commented on the wrong Ramada. I've heard a couple good things about the Ramada Plaza, nothing bad off the top of my head.

Yes, I have been reading about the Maingate and heard some good things about it. So now I wonder is one better than the other? Rates at the Plaza seem better. A clean room, decent breakfast and a short walk are what is inportant to me. We won't spend too much, if any time at the pool. Also any hidden fees? Parking, resort fees....

We stayed at the Ramada Plaza on Katella last month. The room was clean, very comfortable bed, helpful staff. The breakfast included scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, hash browns, cereal. The food was fine, juice is very watered down, I thought the restaurant was very dirty (food and dishes fine....seats, tables, highchairs really gross.) the walk took about 12 minutes while pushing strollers. It's about 1 1/2 Las Vegas sized blocks. The parking and wi-fi is free and there were no hidden hotel fees. I was pleased overall but next time might try to stay closer since we have 2 little kids. The walk definitely felt longer at the end of the day.

We are going the first few days of April. The Hilton is a few $'s less than the Plaza, but I think it is too far of a walk and no breakfast. The Plaza is a few $'s less than the Maingate and the Ho Jo is about $15.00 more than any of them and they don't have breakfast.:confused3

Stayed at the Ramada Plaza Friday through Sunday night last weekend. Room was fine, free WiFi, free parking, walk was not bad (except at night when we were worn out from the day) and free breakfast was a plus. It had eggs, hash browns, sauage, bacon, toast, cereal, oatmeal, etc. It was also the cheapest we found in the area at $101 a night. Rooms had microwaves, fridges, and coffee makers. Overall for our short trip it was great. Added benifit was on the walk home you passed a 7-11 and another store to buy drinks for the room.

No opinion on the Plaza other than for us we didn't really consider it as it was outside the realm of walking distance (we have a six year old).

We very much liked the Ramada Maingate, suggest doing a search for reviews...

DH and I stayed at the Ramada Plaza a few years ago. We didn't have any complaints about the hotel, but the walk was too far for us. It was fine in the morning, but after a full day in the parks it was a long walk back. Since then, we've preferred staying at the Tropicana when we visit (though that was also before they instituted additional fees for parking)
