I am trying to find a nice, fairly inexpensive hotel for a 2 day trip in Feb. I am thinking of the Ramada Maingate for me and DH. How far is it to walk? I know it is on the corner of Harbor and Katella, but how much time does it take to walk that distance? Also are there any opinions on it? What about the Fairfield? I haven't looked up prices or availability for the fairfield, but am curious to get opinions. Last time we stayed at the Carosel and it wasn't as nice as we hoped. Thanks!

Try one of the POP Resorts so you are on WDW property and able to utilize the transportation system. Good Luck!:cutie:

Wrong park. POP is at WDW. DL has only 3 Disney run hotels-Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel and the Grand Californian.

Stayed at both Ramada Maingate and Fairfield. It was a number of years ago for Ramada, but the quality was not very nice. Have stayed at the Fairfield three different times and have found it very nice! McDonalds is half a block away for a quick breakfast or snack. Walking distance is fairly close. Have a great time.

I would not go back to the Ramada Maingate. We stayed there once and will never do it again. We had double beds that were VERY uncomfortable so dh and I never slept soundly. It seemed dirty to me and the staff was very unfriendly. They also had their "continental breakfast" which we usually skip because we like to eat at the Riverbelle anyway but I checked it out one morning and was excited because they had yogurt available. Turns out you had to pay for that plus other stuff. The only thing that was "included" in the price of your room were danishes that looked like they could shatter a window if thrown. I keep a list of hotels by my desk and put a "yes" or a "no" next to them for future reference. This one has a huge "NO, NEVER AGAIN!!!" next to it.

We stayed at the Ramada last month, its under renovations (wasn't told when made ressies) so probably not a good time to stay there. we took the ART transportation took about 5 minutes for the drive, would probably take 15-20 minutes to walk.

We are going in Feb and will be staying at the Residence Inn/Garden Grove with friends who have stayed there every trip, getting $129 1 bed suite AAA discount, has great breakfast and an afternoon "meal" of bbq stuff. Since going with friends and their 2 DD we are planning on have breakfast and early dinner there to save some $$ on food.

have stayed at the Sheraton and Crowne Plaza in past, both very nice, but more $$. good luck.

Another person who has stayed at both Ramada and Fairfield. Summer '04 for FF, last spring for Ramada.

Fairfield definitely ranks higher for me as well, but I didn't dislike Ramada as much as others here seem to. Then again, I'm an adult traveller with no kids who usually goes with another frugal friend. The fact that I didn't return to Fairfield again shouldn't turn anyone off from it. We looked for the cheaper rate and the shorter walk (Not sure we actually had a shorter walk from Ram over FF. Both are rather short to the corner and actual Maingate), so long as we thought we'd be comfortable.

Ramada offered a free breakfast, which we didn't bother with. Fairfield did not.

The keep of Fairfield is much better in the rooms and the common areas. I didn't bother with the pool at Ramada, as it seemed quiet and slightly poor repair. I did enjoy Fairfield's pool though.

Thanks for all of the opinions :)
