Rainy Day Tips?

We've been so lucky to avoid any bad weather (for the most part) on our past couple of trips. Our upcoming trip looks COLD (to us, we are Floridians ;) ) which is fine and sometimes fun but one day looks very rainy too. Unfortunately, that's the day we move resorts and check-in to BLT. We may not have a room until the afternoon. It is also the day I have a FP for Frozen in the afternoon. I made it at 60 days and can't change it (I tried) So, we will make the most with what we have to deal with

It's me, DH and our two DD's (9 and 5)- DH and I have raincoats and I bought ponchos (they are heavier than the 'one time use' kind). I will bring extra shoes for the trip in case the ones we are wearing that day get all wet and I am going to grab some dollar store ponchos to cover the stroller with. Anything else we may need?

I have one question and feel sort of dumb asking it but... we will store our ponchos on the bottom of the stroller (in a plastic grocery store bag? is there a better way?) and use them as needed. Do we take them off at each attraction and put them in a bag (that I guess we will carry on the attraction?) and then put the wet ponchos back on before heading out. Also, I know most restaurants and attractions have stroller parking outside. If it is pouring we just cover the stroller and head in or would we permitted to take the stroller inside the restaurant?

Sorry, don't meant to sound like a moron, just trying to figure out best way to tour in the cold rain with two kids. Thanks!

Nope, not a moron. Very good questions.

Rainy days stink. You have to make the best of them, and yes, you'll probably get wet to some degree. Packing wise, in my opinion, you're all set. We strictly use ponchos and they do fine for the most part (we use the dollar store ones). We also typically store the ponchos in the bottom of the stroller. The only other possibility is that my wife carries a large bag with her and sometimes we'll stuff them into a trash bag and then stuff the trash bag into her bag before we get on a ride. Then take them back out when we have to go outside. But you get a little wet taking them off and putting them on. No way around it, but it beats standing in the rain with nothing.

As for bringing the stroller in, we only go to the QS places (we pack our own food), and we've never had a problem bringing the stroller in. I think table service restaurants are different, you can't bring them in.

We seem to get a lot of rainy days at theme parks and we are headed there this upcoming (potentially rainy) weekend as well. I just went and bought some extra ponchos at Dollar Tree; that way there's no need to struggle with a soaking wet used one if things get really messy. Keep in mind that when rain hits, many people will start heading towards the exits, and to indoor venues. If you are prepared, this is the perfect time to go find those queues for rides that typically have long waits. My favorite theme park memory ever is from when I was a teenager at Kings Dominion. Those of us who stuck out a rain storm pretty much enjoyed the park to ourselves later on!

Yep to the bold. And I hate it. That's why we use umbrellas instead of ponchos. At least anytime it's a day long rain. Pop up showers the ponchos are fine, the rain is usually so quick you aren't putting the dang things on and off.

It's a pain but we take off our ponchos and try to shake them off (gently and away from other people!) as much as possible before folding them up any time we go indoors. Otherwise they become a wet mess.

One thing that we do is to put the poncho in its original packing in a Ziploc bag. If we need to use the poncho, we fold it back up and put it in the Ziploc before we go indoors.

I bring a light rain coat.. wind breaker.. for days when its forecasted to rain.. of course that would be EVERY DAY in the summer.. but we don't go in the summer..

The tips really come down to have a way to store wet raincoats, ponchos, whatever you are going to use when out in the rain and be able to cover the stroller. You'll sort out what works for your family but your not going to want them on the entire day and it won't rain the entire day either.

Also, for me a rainy winter day is different than a rainy summer day. Maybe we're exceptions, but we find it fun to run around on a rainy summer day. Why? Well, why not. It's Disney, we're there for fun, and it's just enjoyable to us (well, except for DW who complains that she is then cold when we go into air conditioned places...the goose bumps on her arms would confirm that). Plus, as Accident said, it typically won't rain the entire day anyway. So the sun comes back out and we dry off. A rainy winter day, I don't think I'd enjoy it as much.

For your stroller you may want to take a shower curtain liner and a couple of clips, then you can cover the whole thing and there's not a hole.

It really depends how much you've adjusted to the temp out. Right now rainy winter day is 60s or 70s out and it does make it a little more humid but not like the summer where your poncho might act like a greenhouse. If your already cold or your choice of jacket for the temp doesn't handle wet well (not a great day to have fleece on) it's quick to be annoying..

as OP said they are a floridian, 60 and 70 is jeans and sweater weather for us so it'll be less comfortable than someone who came in from much colder.

I have something similar to this https://www.amazon.com/Mudder-Porta...rd_r=MAM6J78820HQQ2YDFK1S&_encoding=UTF8&th=1. I'm short so it comes down to just about me feet and I'm totally covered. It folds down to fit into a sandwich sized ziplock bag so I take it off, shake it out and turn it inside out and fold it down and put it in the bag and fold all the air out of the bag so it's pretty compact. This does require either a flat surface to keep getting the air out or holding it against myself and smoothing as I fold. Turning it inside out keeps the water off me. I take that if it looks like it's pretty much going to rain all day and be kind of chilly. If it is just going to be the regular pop up showers I have a good old fashioned Mickey poncho which I also fold down to fit into a zip lock or I take a small umbrella which has it's own cover with a clip so when I use it, the covers goes in a pocket to keep it dry and then the umbrella goes back into the cover when closed and hangs on a belt loop or purse strap if I'm forced to carry on. I take my rain coat/poncho off when getting on rides just so the next person doesn't get in a wet seat.

Thanks everyone! Will grab a shower curtain liner to cover the stroller and hope for the best :)
This is what we used BUT make sure the hood of the stroller is not folded back. The rain will not run off and will form a "puddle" in the shower curtain, and eventually give way soaking the stroller.

and bring clothes pins to secure your shower curtain/poncho/trash bag to the stroller so that it doesn't blow off.

I haven't seen any discussion of shoes. I recommend sandals like Tevas. If it rains, you just march right through the puddles, etc and the sandals will dry. I personally hate soggy socks, so I much prefer sandals. It was pouring one day and my DS and I just threw on our ponchos and headed to MK. There was an area in Tomorrow Land that was not draining and it was several inches deep--there was no way around the standing puddle. I really was glad for my sandals then!

Yes, but what if it's colder weather...good old rain boots or galoshes might be the answer. I brought and changed into Croc sandals (which were perfect when it rained) but, it was very hot in September!
