RAINING ALL WEEK?!?!?!?

:guilty::sad:
We're arriving on Monday. I am not looking forward to a rainy vacation after a very rainy spring at home. Does anybody have tips for covering your DSLR camera?

It won't rain all day - but on my trip early June (which was only 4 days) it rained hard every day. Usually only a few hours at most, and always in the afternoon/early evening - but I do not believe uncommon to have frequent (although short) rain showers in the summer in Orlando.

Hope for the best, expect the worst, and if the rain lasts more than an hour - you'll have plenty of short wait times to look forward too!

Can I ask a weird question? Does anyone just use an umbrella instead of a poncho? A poncho doesn't sound too comfortable, especially in the heat, and then there is the issue with your shoes still getting soaked.

It rains so hard that your shoes will likely be a casualty, umbrella or not. Its almost impossible to avoid all of the puddles.

We toured the parks in 2013 during Tropical Storm Debbie - 72 hours of straight rain. That was an interesting trip to say the least! During the summer months, you could have brief rain showers to hours-long rain showers. Ironically, the best weather we've encountered in Orlando has been in December (only ironic, I guess, coming from a girl living in New England who expects snow that time of year!). For 2 years straight, we've encountered mid-70's and zero rain during our mid-December trips.

Ditto! WE went December 2014 and the weather was flipping amazing! Highs in the 50s/60s, lows in the 40s. Sunny. No rain. We had only ever been to Disney in shorts weather, so wearing long sleeves, pants, and lightweight jackets was awesome. It was also nice not having to shower and change clothes twice a day!

I hope there's good weather this December. I don't mind rain if it's hot/warm, but rainy and chilly? No thanks. I'll deal with it regardless, and still be glad I'm at Disney, but sunny, mild weather would be amazing.

I think December is one of their drier months... we were there a week and only had one day where it was cloudy and drizzling off and on.

We just returned from our trip 6/7-6/14 and there were days that the rain lingered throughout the day. It was pretty overcast most of the time this past week, but it wasn't pouring rain all the time. There were dry periods, but the rain tended to return and be drizzly alot. It definitely wasn't the usual sunny mornings, afternoon storms, and sunny afterwards. But we did everything we wanted and the upside is that it was cooler and less humid!

I was at DW this week and was surprised at how long the rain lasted. Both my parents are from Florida so I know about the afternoon storm thing. It rained a lot longer than I expected. Be prepared and hope for the best. I will say that I enjoyed the cooler temps. We did end up getting rain checks for both of the water parks. Just another excuse to go back!!! :flower:

Just about to head home. It rained every single day we were at the parks.

Not gentle easy rains, but monsoon rains. Wet shoes are the worst. Everything was soaked. We walked in 3 inches of water because there was nowhere for it to drain to.

So rain is not fun.

My best advice: Bring a GOOD poncho, not those 3 dollar cheapies. I recommend frog toggs or something similar. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. You will get wet at Disney World.

Man, everyone can spout off all they want about how awesome the rain is, clears out parks, etc., ....what you described is just plain crappy for someone's vacation.

I understand Florida needs the rain. Rationally.
Irrationally, I understand that's it's ruining people's vacations. :( And there is nothing wrong with being bummed about it. You don't always have to look on the bright side.

January too. We were there at the end of January and didn't see a drop of rain the whole week.

I have been to the parks in steady rain all day into the night just before park closing two different times. The first time, I was still recovering from a broken ankle so I had an ECV rental & I covered the controls w/a kitchen trash bag so it wouldn't die, wore my poncho & scooted around the parks all day in it with no issues.

The second was this past February & I was not in the ECV but was prepared for it. I brought a kitchen towel in my backpack, kitchen trash bags (handy when you want to sit down & the bench is still wet), extra socks & an extra outfit to change into if it stopped (I was so glad I did this!), & I put newspaper in my sneakers at night which also helped dry them out quite a bit by the next morning. I had different sized ziplock bags to put my phone in & anything else I didn't want to get wet. I even brought plastic lids for drinks (I like to have a beer or mixed drink & they never have lids for them)! I'm not gonna say I totally wasn't phased by the rain but being better prepared made a huge difference for me. I still had a great time!

OP, you have my sympathy. We were there for the week of Matthew last October and all the rain made it a less than perfect trip. We still managed to have fun, though.

The ponchos are hot and heavy, but they are the best thing for getting around in the rain. We found Epcot to be the best park in the rain since it has the most indoor attractions, and some that you can spend hours in like the Living Seas and some of the countries. Animal Kingdom was the worst. Festival of the Lion King, It's Tough To Be a Bug and Nemo were the only indoor attractions since Dinosaur was being rehabbed.

Here in FL we are watching a system in the GULF.

Depending how close it gets to FL will determine the rain for next week. As of now it looks like a steady on and off rain is possible for Sunday through Tuesday getting better by Wed

Now if storm goes further West will be less rain.

One thing is certain there will NOT be much sun next week in Disney World. Sorry

Hardly certain. Weather forecasts change constantly.

Hardly certain. Weather forecasts change constantly.

Not certain at all but if this system comes closer to FL, next week WILL NOT be your typical summer storms in Florida.

It will be a more constant heavy rain.

It looks like the storm in the Gulf might be further away from FL than previous thought. Would mean less rain for Orlando this week.

Can you give me an update or elaborate on this a bit? We're looking at a Wednesday (6/21) to a Tuesday trip (6/27). Thanks in advance.
