We will be dining at the Rainforest Cafe one night (have gc's), is the one by Animal Kingdom better or the one by in Downtown disney? Do you need to make reservations ahead of time?

I've heard that the one at the Animal Kingdom is better. We have eaten at the DD one ourselves and it was fine... nothing great, nothing bad either. As far as I know, you can only make a reservation if you are a member of the Rainforest Club.

if you are a safari club memner you walk in and they seat you at the next tabke so no waiting
its worth it
we like the one at DTD it was great last time we ate there
depending on when you go i would go to there website and sign up for the safari club
or do it right there thats what we did
good luck !

i think you need to call in or go to a rfc to join the safari club.you can not do it online. they let me join over the phone since there is not one any where near me but i think you really are supposed to go to a landry's rest. to do it. i know the last time we were at Joe's' crab shack they let someone at the next table renew her membership so that might be an option also.
never been to the dtd rfc but we enjoyed lunch and breakfast at the ak rfc, especially breakfast

I think they are both equally bad. Haven't had a good meal at either one of them. We won't be back to either one. And we don't go to them outside WDW either. Nothing but bad experience for us at these two restaurants.

We've tried both. There was no wait at the AK. Each time we went, we were seated right away. The one in DTD was a 2 hour wait. So if we decide to eat at one of them, we always go to AK.

We have been to both - as well as another one in Washington state at a mall. All 3 were equally bad. Service was bad, food was "ok" - We will not return.

My family loves this place also. We usually eat at the one in AK. I love the shrimp en brochette. Also, I had a wonderful banana's foster crepe.

We have done both and had better service at AK. But like others have posted, not a good overall experience. Too many better places in the World

I've said this before, I do not like the fact that the Rainforest Cafe is at DAK. Placing any chain restaurant on WDW propery cheapens the experience, IMHO. One of the great things about WDW is the feeling that you have left the real world. Seeing a restaurant that is 30 minutes from my home takes away from that for me.

If Disney wanted that kind of a restaurant at DAK, they should have created one of their own. I suspect that the Imanineers could designed a much better restaurant experience.

Well, we don't have one anywhere near us so it is a special outing for my family. We have a fun time when we go.

We had breakfast ADRs for the one at AK on 11/19. We don't have this restaurant where I live and we really wanted to see it. I have to say it was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience for my family. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservations and enjoyed browsing the gift shop. We checked in and were promptly seated. My DH and I had the Benedict Bamba and the kids had the Breakfast of Bandits. The food was delicious and the portions were large enough that it carried us through until dinner. Our server was charming and attentive, checking on us several times during our meal, refilling coffee, etc. I plan on going back the next time we have a WDW vacation.

Dang, I didn't know that & we're SC members. I've always just called and made a reservation like an idiot. :confused3

We ate lunch at the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom.

Service was VERY slow. It took 20 minutes before we could even place our order after we were seated. Then it took a very long time before the food arrived. Total time in the restaurant (after being seated) was about 1.5 hours, most of which was waiting!!

The food was good but not great. Some meals were better than others. Portion sizes were good, so that we did not go away hungry.

Prices were high for value received (even with discounts).

We also have a GC for RFC and since there is none anywhere where we live, I figured we could go while at WDW. Last year we ate at the one that is near the AK, and I was able to make an ADR, although it was an early time for dinner, 4:10 if I recall. Does anyone know if ADR's can still be made at the AK RFC location? I was thinking the DTD location might be nice to try but I am not keen on waiting 2+ hours to wait for a table - not with 2 young children in tow, that is. It's not worth it for us to join the safari club since there are no Landry's, Joe's Crab Shack, or any other restaurant like that around here.

TIA

I made PS at AK RFC for DW and I in May 2004 and I have an ADR there in May 2006 for DW, DD, DSIL, DGS and me. I don't think you can do this for the DTD RFC but I'm not sure as I have never tried.

You can make reservations at the DTD Rainforest Cafe, but you must call the restaurant directly, not Disney Dining. (I have one for next March.) You can make reservations at the AK Rainforest Cafe via Disney Dining.

It worked like a charm for me at DTD. I tried it another RC in Mass., and the idiot manager said No.
