Hi, I'd like to take my kids to Rainforest Cafe this time but I've heard mixed reviews. Can anyone give me their experiences and which one is better, downtown disney or AK? Thanks a lot.

Hi, I'd like to take my kids to Rainforest Cafe this time but I've heard mixed reviews. Can anyone give me their experiences and which one is better, downtown disney or AK? Thanks a lot.

We've only eaten at RFC in DTD and loved it, we'll eat there again in September this year. :goodvibes

We have eaten at both and have good food at both. Most recently we ate at the one at DTD, I had the Seafood Paella and it was very good! :goodvibes

If I had to pick one, I would go with the one in AK because of the obvious theme.

This is a chain restaurant with the same menu items albeit a bit pricier simply because of the locale. It's a nice experience if you have kids but other than that, I would consider places more indigenous to the world.

We prefer the AK one however I have to agree the service at either one leaves much to be desired.

This is one restaurant that we don't have anywhere around us so it's unique. It's a must do every trip for my DH. We all love the atmosphere and the food is very good also. The service has always been fast and friendly for us at both locations.

we have eaten at RFC in DTD every time we have been to WDW and have loved it with the exception of one time...this time we have an ADR for the one at AK and are really looking forward to it:cool1:

We have eaten at both, several times. They are both, IMHO, pretty much the same. Of course, the one by AK allows you to go right back into the park when your done, or go into the park before you eat and go right into the restaurant from inside the park. Th food is not anything spectacular as in some of the Disney eateries, but the atmosphere is cool for the kids.

We have eaten at both and is one we always make a point to eat at when we go. Have never noticed a difference in the food from one to another, and haven't had any bad service to report. the kids love the theme and remember it is a busy noisy restaurant....save room for the volcano, yummy:thumbsup2 (it feeds about 4)

I've always preferred the AK one because the theme fits in with the park and you have access to the "secret entrance" to the park.

Truth be told though, the RFC is a place where the atmosphere is the main reason to go. The food, while good, isn't any better than many other on-property restaurants.

Having said that, however, I have yet to have a truly bad experience in terms of food or service at either location... but the AK one always seemed to have tables/booths open more so than the DTD one.

We eat at RFC at AK every trip since it opened. I, too, have read all those mixed or bad reviews, but we've always had good experiences there. Good food, and good service. The theming is incredible - so much fun! I would definitely recommend going to the one at AK, since the theme just fits in with the whole experience.

Thanks very much for all the responses. We've decided to go to the one at AK to stay with the theme that day! I can't wait to see inside.

Good Decision! I'm late to post but we ate at the AK RFC in June and had a wonderful time. Had an ADR so not much wait, that was nice. The food was really good and after watching many of those volcano desserts being delivered, my family of four decided to split one - we had so much fun!

Only thing - a guy came by and gave us a spiel about a discount card, could have done without that but he wasn't pushy, took "no" well.

Have fun!

This is a must do for us every year because the closest one to us is in Canada and their food isn’t very good their. I think both dtd and ak locations are great, but we usually end up going to the one at dtd more. My dd12 loveeees their pizza!

The rainforest cafe card is a good deal if you plan on eating here more than once. It is $10 and you get a free appetizer or a percentage off your meal each time you eat there. They will then send you a $10 coupon with your membership card, however since we don't have one near us I couldn't use it. On your membership anniversary, and on your birthday they will send you another $5 coupon. You also get front of the line seating if you go without an ADR.

mypoints also lets you get rainforest cafe giftcards with your points. I have never paid out of pocket for food here as I always earn enough to feed my family.

Its a tradition for our family to hit the one in DTD on our first night to prime us for a great week. We love the atmosphere, food is pretty good (part. seafood) but we always save room to split the volcano dessert, a must have! We'll be there for dinner on 10/13.

Oh, I'm going to check that out. I used to do mypoints years ago, might have to get back into it.

We thought the same thing about the card. No restaurant near us and we wouldn't use it enough. We already get a discount through DVC.

It was a fun time though, really enjoyed it! Had a great server too :)

We also have the Safari Club card. The good thing about it is that it is only $10 for lifetime. I think you may have to use the card once a year to keep it active so they send you the coupons via e-mail. Though the free appitizer or discount continues as long as you have the card.
When we went to the one at AK in May we had a coupon that they mailed us that was expired (we don't have any close to us either), they were kind enough to let us use it and gave us the 10% off as well.

We ate at the Rainforest Cafe in Animal Kingdom, and I wasn't too thrilled when my meal came. I had a trio entree which included coconut shrimp skewers, ribs, and steak. The shrimp skewers were out of this world delicious. The steak was OK, but not nearly as good as the one I had at Le Cellier. However, the ribs were disasterous. They were over cooked, and were mostly fat. I would go to the Rainforest Cafe again, but just order the coconut shrimp skewers. :)
