Hiya

Well we normally start our wdw trip off with a meal at the rainforest cafe at dtd, but unofrtunatly last year we went and it was awfull! the starters and mains showed up together (After an hours wait) the server was obnoxious, and we really just felt they were trying to rush uf through.

But was it just a bad one off for us,

whats your experiances?

We really like the Rainforest Cafe and have been to the ones in Las Vegas, Cancun, Paris and London. We found the one in London to be the worse. Really overpriced and small portions. However you can't beat the theming and always like to go just for that. I like buying the t-shirts too. You may have been unlucky.

Have you tried the one at animal kingdom? They do a nice breakfast there.

Good luck if you try again.

We always visit RFC DTD at the start of our holiday and the whole way through. We have never had a bad experience.

Anna & everyone - Apologies, this going to be a rant and a good one!

I think our experiences were similar to yours - we've been going there for years. But last October we had 2 experiences which were absolutely dire - both in terms of service and food. The first meal Included:

Being stuck right next to the toilets (we were moved eventually after we asked 5 times), the wrong meal turning up ages late, starters turning up after the main course, food being just poor, servers who wasn't interested - when we complained about the Ribs being just fat we were told "..they they are like that over here, you're just not used to them..".. No love, they are absolute rubbish just take them back and change them...

I can't comment on the second meal - we never made it that far, after being called and having out tickets taken away in the queue we were told we weren't on the system when being seated..."Erm, we've just given our tickets to that bloke over there" Doesn't matter you aren't in the system, well go check with that bloke he has our tickets..nope wouldn't do it and told us to go back to the main desk, so we did "Oh you are on the system, I don't know why they've done that, You'll have to wait again now though"

Unsurprisingly I told them where they could park their "Mojo Bones" and we left...

Sorry - Rant over! :)

We've been so many times over the past 10 years that the drop in standards is really clear to us and we were so disappointed last time....

Cheers
Paul

I went to the one at DLRP and I did not like the food however my daughter loved the themeing so if i went again it would just be for the themeing.

We have had several great experiences at RFC until last October when we had a similar experience to some of the posters above. Mains arrived around 3 to 4 mins after starters did. My pasta dish was awful and DHs burger was mediocre at best. Hopefully they have sorted themselves out in this has improved however we wont be going back until we start to see some much better reviews on here.

We went to the AK one last November and it was fantastic! Loved the theming and the food was good. :)

We went to the DTD one in '05 and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Long queues, very long wait for food and when it did arrive it wasn't as nice as the meals we'd had on International Drive. The service was poor and the bill came to > $80 which, again compared to I-Drive is way over the odds. I know themeing is nice but it's not that nice.

To cap it all off we paid with a $100, I don't remember if it was a TC or cash. The waitress had the audacity to ask "Do you want you're change?" ... er, yes. I do! I don't mind leaving a tip. If a restaurant / staff have provided a good service we leave one - but for her to ask if I would like my own change? That's beyond a joke.

To sum it up. The service was poor. The food was "OK". The portions were small. Compared to others, RFC is definetly not value for money. And no, I didn't leave a tip.We won't be visiting again!

We to always stop off for a meal, but we to have had a dodgy experience on our last visit!!!
The same thing happened with us regarding the ticket issue, we were called and handed our ticket over this was after an hours wait (more fool us I here you say) ;) Anyway we were ordered to wait there and then ignored for another 15 mins, as people that were behind us were bieng taken in.
O.k. so they might have been there before us I don't know but when another family and ourselfs asked a member of staff we were told we had been called up as our tables were ready!!!! So hubbie asked why were we still standing here after being called and having handed our tickets in??
She went very red and went to find a Manager.
Manager arrived said sorry there had been a mix up and showed us to a table.

Had an array of staff who of coursedid not communicate with oneanother so when we put in our order with one person and asked if we could have suace on the side etc the message never got relayed, it really was a disaster and to top it all our table was directly below an air conditioning vent that just kept dripping water and of course was freezing!!! OMG you have got to laugh if you didn't you would cry.
Anyway had a very polite moan to the manager and left swiftly with a very reduced tab .
I have to say this is the only time we have had a dodgy experience so I reckon we have been lucky but I do think we might give it a miss next year.

we've never been to the one in DTD.
We went to the AK one once, but didn't like it. I've eaten in the one in suburban detroit twice (great lakes crossing) and both times it was pretty awful (dirty, bad service, lousy food, etc.).

From a personal stand point Rainforest Cafe has been more novelty value than standard of food because lets face it there is better out there! We did find on our last trip that the one at AK was better than that at DTD,the food was obviously the same but just thought that the standard of service was better. Our first night meal used to be TGI's at LBV but as the standard dropped we moved on,we now go to Bennigan's at LBV as so far the standard of both the food & service has been good. We tend to stay near the hotel our first night as: a)it will have been an early check-in at the airport, b) we have to get our groceries in , c) we want to get an early breakfast & get to MK for opening the next day.

We ate at the RFC at DTD in October, it was the worst service and meal we have had in Orlando it was a big dissapointment.

We always eat here but in October we had cold food, the wrong order and service with attitude, and it turned out to be one of the most expensive meals we had during the vacation, we will bypass it this October for HRC and TGI's where we have eaten for years without a problem

The last time I used the RFC at DTD I happened to walk past the area where the servers have their paydesks, and I was convinced that on the screen, next to each table number, there was a timer running. Did I imagine this or has anybody else noticed this?

It wouldn't surprise me if I this is the case elsewhere and one of the reasons why (as somebody else has said) the main course can arrive a few minutes after the starter. Servers could be on some sort of time target to serve a party and then get the next 'wallet' sat down.

Hard Rock is no better, and on one occasion in a Red Lobster I had a salad that had been on the table for a few minutes and hardly touched taken away with the comment "I'll just start clearing away ready for the next course".
