we will be going to Orlando in June. I've read that the heat can cause some intense afternoon storms. My question is, if they close the rides because it's storming, how long after it quits raining to they re-open. I mean do they have to wait for tracks and stuff to dry off? :sunny:

Yes you do tend to have a bit of a downpour most nights around 5:00. But they are short and sweet.

I think the rides that do close are only closed for a short while and that is only if there is lightning in the immediate area.

Head over to the universal studios side. Most of the things there are inside. Plus when it rains most people tend to leave the parks but not me. Use the rain to your advantage and stay around and ride the indoor rides.

Totally agree- if it rains stay at the park-

You kinda have to watch the weather and when it looks like rain is imminent head into an inside ride, maybe with a long wait. Alfred Hitchcock used to suffice perfectly and it was by the entrance/exit and a bit long.

Been to USF three years in a row and have never purchased nor worn any ponchos. In USF you can kinda walk between overhangs. Now the walk back to HRH you will get soaked.

Also, this makes me wonder: people will ride water rides when it's sunny out, but they hide when it rains.

You're going to get wet on the ride anyway (JP, Ripsaw, or Blutos), so go for it!

Also if the rain is too heavy, they may shut some rides down. If there is lightning, all outside rides get shut down quickly.

in the rain you drive by wet & wild and its still operating - unless there's lighning in the area - its rain or shine-no rain checks

I personally would never want to be on those stairs with lightning within 5 miles, just me.

Isn't Central Florida summer weather wonderful- and this is where I want to live when I retire.

Good Point, DM, that is one of the best times to ride the water rides - as you state, you are going to get wet anyways

On our first visit to IOA, it was raining and we rode the Bilge Rat Barges continuously with another family. We rode about 7-8 times only having to get off once when a few people were waiting. It was great fun riding in the rain! The line was a little longer at Ripsaw Falls. We waited behind 10-15 people! And this was on a Saturday afternoon during peak season in early August. During rain is the best time for the water rides IMO. We had a blast!
