Rain Tips...

As a fellow Texan i know we are not used to the rain. I wear TEVA's during the rain. Flip Flops will break an ankle. Take a poncho and keep moving through the rain. Most people will go into the shops or indoor que lines. Be prepared and you can still go do what you want while it's raining.

Remember that even though it may say 60% chance of rain, it most likely is not going to rain all day. We lived in Florida for 3 years, and every day in the summer, the clouds would roll in and dump for an hour and then move on.

We just got back yesterday from a week long trip. There was at least a 30% chance of rain every day we were there - sometimes much higher. It didn't rain very much at all. DS3 was annoyed with his wet shorts - so either bring a change of clothing for the kids or keep to the covered areas. We did not bring ponchos or anything - we were trying to travel light. It was AWESOME. Although we did wear water sandals on wet days and I tried to have the kids (and myself) wear quick-drying shorts.

Don't wear white if you are avoiding show-through.

Don't wear denim - it will NEVER dry. DS15 didn't listen to me on that one and had wet shorts for an entire afternoon after Splash Mountain.

Don't worry about the rain - it really helped cool things off and kept crowds to a minimum.

Also, the forecasts were WAY off. Never accurate at all.

We were there 2 years ago for Tropical Storm Faye ... rained all week. And I do mean rained! Get yourself some ponchos, I wore flip flops that dried out quickly ... sneakers take forever to dry so if you are planning to wear them be sure to take a couple of pairs and just go out and have fun! During this summer's trip we had rain on and off. In fact we watched SpectroMagic in one of the worst downpours I've ever been in in my life. In fact the last 2 floats stopped and they had to be towed. And the thing to remember is if you're watching a parade there is nowhere to go so be prepared to pull out those ponchos!

I agree! Besides ponchos and extra shoes, the best thing to pack for rainy days is a positive attitude. We spent this past New Year's Day at AK in a steady downpour with our 7 and 9 year old boys - and it was great! Lines were short, and the rain and mud really added to the 'jungle' atmosphere.

It's all what you make of it.

Oh, and if you know of a weather service that can reliably predict rain (or anything else) three weeks out, BUY that service - you'll make a fortune!

if you have a backpack take your ponchos and extra socks with you. other then that jsut enjoy. people will run for cover once the rain starts so if you are prepared you can keep going and the lines will be less. just enjoy the trip and don't worry about the rain since there is nothing you can do about it anyways.

Would recommend you buy the small pocket-size ponchos. I am a big fan of them because i'm a light packer!

I would also be aware of indoor alternatives/shows just in case there are brief showers.

its rained here almost daily all week. my poor mom decided to wear her sneakers and they are STILL drying out from 3 days ago. she went and bought a new pair yesterday because of it. I wore my keen shoes and they are awesome in the rain. protect your feet like sneakers from being stepped on and run over by strollers and dry out so quickly!

We've never had rain. Ever. So naturally you dont pack all of that junk since it's never a problem, right? Wrong. This past February we had a few days of rain and wow. We rented a Disney stroller and needed to buy ponchos for the 4 of us and the stroller. Not the greatest material so we needed one every day that it rained. It adds up. So when we go in October and February I'm taking precautions!

As a girl from Florida I can tell you that you do tend to get quick downpours in the summer that last anywhere from 2 minutes to an hour. Bring a backpack with ponchos and extra socks. Most poeple panic when it starts to rain and head for the shows, the shops or they leave. This is a great time to ride some big ticket rides. If it is lightning they will close the outside rides (like Expidition Everest, Big Thunder Mountain, etc.) I would say have fun with it. Remember as a kid how fun it used to be to play in the rain?

I am packing ponchos, a stroller cover, and some umbrellas! www.weather.com has the information on the weather. So far my Sept 2nd-4th is filled with thunderstorms

Buy a Stroller Cover suited for your stroller - that is if you're taking a stroller. Use the cover if you're going to leave the stroller for any amount of time. You never know if you will come out of an attraction and it had come a downpour while you were in there. Happened to us during Philharmagic and MuppetVision - but the stroller was covered and I had the ponchos in my backpack so all was dry! I also carry flip flops in my backpack as backup - I hate to wear wet sneakers!

I live in Florida and in the summer and into Sept it can rain everyday but usually not for long. At about 3PM every day the clouds come and it may rain or may not at my house. I have seen it rain in my yard and not the one next door!!! In Florida it's called Liquid Sunshine!!! Also it may rain at AK and not rain at MK. So like everyone says..pack ponchos and go for it!!!

I find it very helpful to pack an absorbent shammy or two in the backpack everyday in order to dry off ride seats after rain and on rides like Splash Mountain.

We didn't plan on as much rain as we had since December isn't supposed to be a rainy season but it rained 3 days of our trip.

I packed everything in the backpack in ziplock bags to protect it and keep it dry...and I mean everything including my DSLR camera and extra lens!

For Ponchos we just bought the WDW ones because we needed them! LOL! Two child sized and two adult sized and trudged right on through.

Lots of great ideas! Here is one I haven't seen so far--We took a garbage bag( tall kitchen size- drawstring type) to cover our stroller bag, back pack, etc. then hung it from the back of the stroller. Worked really well. Kept the kids diapers, extra clothes, autograph books dry.

Bring at least two pairs of shoes per person (I usually bring three or four total). That way, if your shoes get wet, you have a dry pair.

I bring a couple of "emergency" ponchos (the cheap dollar store kind) but also bring a nicer poncho from home. I got one at Target for about $10 a few years back (Eddie Bauer brand), and love it. It's made of sturdier material than the cheap ponchoes (and even the WDW ponchoes are flimsy!). If you wear a flimsy poncho, it will cling to you when wet - I hate that! Sturdier ponchos stand away from your body a little, and you don't have to keep peeling them off your legs when wet.
