DH won't let us have a pool. We have the perfect back yard for one, but he won't give in. We nearly bought a house that had an in-ground pool, but there was an offer ahead of ours and theirs went through. Now that same house is up for sale five years later at MORE THAN DOUBLE what they paid for it. ANd they turned it from a three bedroom house to a two bedroom house. Tell me how that's an improvement? I loved that house, though, but I wouldn't want it now that they did that.

Your housing market must be better than ours. They are selling here but at about 15% of what they were 2 years ago.

Ours isn't really better, I don't think. I just think those people are crazy and trying to make a buck or two. DH and I both agree it's not even worth what they're asking, and we know since we've seen it about a dozen times.

I have a friend who has had her house on the market for 2 years. She was silly and bought before she listed the old. They have come down from 309,000 to 269,000. They had one offer in 2 years time. It would stink.

The market here in my area is on the up...I tried to get Danny to sell after Katrinia; everyone from NO and the area was moving here...we built our house and at the time had a balance under 80K. We could have moved further north LA or to another state like FL or CO (a girl can dream--can't she) and made an awesome profit...at the time we could have sold easy for over 300K to be realistic we could probably get about 225K today...

We have a 4'X27' round above ground pool...I wanted to get one of those really big above ground pools 56'X38' (I think that is around the size) with a deck...our pool is 13 yrs old and has no deck ...it is sooooo ugly(never landscaped--and the insurance wanted a fence around it--so Danny put up 10' chain link fence--now, I have a small watering hole (pond) in the front yard and the insurance doesn't care)...but it sure does feel good...Anywho Danny said not next year but maybe the following we can put in an inground pool. He is going to dig it and he wants to find a fiberglass drop in; I wanted a vinyl liner--oh well! it's too far off to argue at the moment!

When you are done digging come up here. Our ground is clay and rock. No not rock. boulders. Don was going to build a basement in our old house. We already had a 6ft clearance so he figured it wouldn't take much. 6 inches, 2 hours and a 2 foot square later he announced we did not need a basement.

I bet you do. We dig anywhere from 175 to 600 ft to get water. And you have to blast to get there. Maybe you could just dig a hole and let if fill naturally.

Don is going to put me a water feature in the back yard under the redwood tree. Someday. We've only lived here 3 years. Guess there is no reason to hurry. Last year we had to re-roof and put in new patio door and windows due to storm damage. So he added a deck on to go with it. So he is getting there.

I would LOVE a pool here, but when my parents were choosing a house my mom won. The house my dad wanted had a beautiful inground pool (and was cheaper), but my mom tends to win those, uh, discussions. My mom has said they are going to put a pool in here. We'll see if that ever happens.

The thing that stinks is that almost all neighborhoods around here have "community pools", including my brothers. But, you guessed it, not this community. Bummer.
