Just back from the annual trip, and I believe I just actually dried off a few minutes ago...man did it rain last week in Disney...I think I am less depressed because i am a DVC member and ...well...I'm going back next year.....but there is nothing worse then using a day on your passes and spending four hours inside Pinnochios counter service watching a monsoon, while eating something resembling a chicken nugget....I actually became so bored i tried to estimate the amount of people who where in the park, and how many of them shelled out $6 for those ponchos, and then tried to figure out how much disney was going to clear that night just on ponchos...yes...way to much time to think.

I got some great excercise getting in and out of the pool at VWL every time it thundered out....my 4 year old found it espescially appealing. He generally shows his happiness by refusing to get out of the water, and having to be physically dragged away from the pool area screaming that he wants to go swimming....oh yes the wonders of parenting in the rain:p :p

The member day was great...I had to leave early because we began building the ARC at 7pm and needed to begin gathering two of every species....still trying to find that second aligator:eek:

But, alas, fellow DVC members, all vacations are not equal. Once in awhile, as a wise person once said, sometimes you are the windshield...and sometimes your the bug:jester: But I will perservere, there is always next year, and just think after last week, I dont need to fly when i have this great ARC I can sail down on, AHOY!!!!

p.s. I also had time at Gippettos place to wonder how many different places i have actualle seen those Mickey ponchos. Every time i go to Fenway or gillette stadium when it rains, I see hundreds of them.....i am wondering if any of you have similar experiences?....and also do you think there are any other uses for these ponchos, so that we can maximize our dollar bills:jester:

Been there, done that, have the T-shirt :)

We got caught in December's rain event and took in the CP anyway. Each vocalist had an umbrella for the processional and there were portable heaters for the orchestra. Still was an awesome performance. We got soaked with rain jackets and umbrellas. But CP is worth it!

Oddly, we rarely see the WDW ponchos outside of Disney. But where else can you get a poncho with a life time guarantee?

We had to be at the same CP.

DW and I decide to stay for Illuminations. Those closer to 9:30, the harder it rained. We had the Gondola area all to ourselves. The fireworks finally started, but the rain held the smoke down. Two minutes into the show we couldn't see a thing.Never saw the globe. Heard the bombs, never saw the explosions. It was freakin hilarious. We laughed so hard I thought we were going to drown just trying to breath. We ended the nite sitting in the VWL hot tub while it continued to pour.

We just got back from 10 days a OKW (Aug 13 to 22) and had to play the same game with a 2 year old. It wasn't pretty. Espeically our last day when we chose pool over parade, and got 20 min in before they kicked us out because of the thunder. Well instead of swimming for our last hour we waited in the lobby of OKW in the pooring rain, at least they had a T.V. for the 2 year old. Oh well, as a DVC member I think this will be our 1st and last summer trip to WDW, and we will stick to winter escapes from Michigan. Next trip is VWL Jan 1st 2004. (our 1st time to WL)

Sorry to hear you got rained out. That happened to us this past December.... I think it rained 8 inches in the 5 days we were there.... a new record!

We are headed to VWL next month, with nothing but pool days planed..... I sure hope the weather cooperates, as we will have 3 kids 4 and under!

We were there 8/14 - 8/23. We too played in the rain! We got stuck on the bus at MGM during the tornado warning - wouldn't let the busses leave!

Got lots of use out of the Stich, Minnie and Princess umbrellas I bought at the DS before we left home. Made it easy to spot our 3dds in the crowd.

Kids are still complaining they didn't get enough "pool time". Who needed the pool when you were wading through water over your ankles - LOL!

gmboy95, I was right there with ya. When I arrived last Tuesday, the 19th, they'd had some flooding in the bottom floor of the VWL. It was amazing.

After going down to S. Florida on business the rest of the week, I came back to Orlando Sunday, and got caught in the rain that afternoon while driving on 192, and couldn't see squat. It was as bad as I've ever seen it. But it cleared off in time for me to get in some shopping at DD for a couple of hours before it hit again.

Sorry about that for both of us. It just happens, y'know?

We were there the 3rd week of July. We had the usual 4PM Florida thundershower that was over in an hour, but nothing monsoon-like!!

See, if you weren't a DVC member, you'd be all aggravated now because your once-in-a-lifetime trip would have been ruined. As a DVCer, you can just chalk it up to the bug/windshield thing or the pigeon/statue thing(sometimes you're the pigeon and sometimes you're the statue;)

We watched Illuminations in the rain on Friday, the 22nd. Did e-ride night on the 19th. Fortunately the rain stopped by the time we got to MK. The only night we didn't go anywhere was Monday.

But we still had a great trip, because we were at our favorite place.

Don't feel like you were alone in the quest for a dry day!

I was there for a long weekend in June, we never really made it to the parks....horizontal rain kept us "home". We did visit DD, see Finding Nemo and laughed at the fact that NEMO was dryer than we were that weekend.

We pushed on. Came back to WDW, Vero and back to WDW July 31 - Aug 10. Again, rain, rain, rain. The only time it didn't rain was when the Drum Corps marched at EPCOT and on Saturday, Aug 9 when the corps stepped off for finals night at the Citrus Bowl. Other than those few hours, we saw some nasty storms, too! We managed to have a great time and were very glad we were in a 2 bedroom at both Vero and OKW. We had a great time visiting with friends and cooking some pretty cool meals!

Oh well, can't control it, may as well go with it..... Weather this year in FL was NOT the usual FL weather.

I am going back for a long weekend in Dec...and if it is anything like LAST year, I am packing a poncho and thinking of bringing oars!!!

Must have rained there all summer because we were there 7/13-7/18 and we had rain, rain, rain and got soaked each and everyday at least 3 times. We saw the MK Fireworks in the rain from a boat that was very, very wet and Member Day for us was rained out at BCV. We played cat and mouse with the rain everyday at SAB. But we still had a good time.

There was a lot of lightning too. Our 3 yr old is still talking about how they shut down the "cars" at the track at MK because of the lightning. She and her dad had waited in line for over 45 mins and were next in line. To her it was the end of the world. 'She's scared to death of lightning....but closing down the cars when it was HER turn. Well that was just too much!

We were at WDW this week last August and although we had rain, we had plenty of sunshine as well. I think it's just the strange weather pattern that's had our weather in the NE so soggy and mild all summer.

We had so many Mickey ponchos leftover from this year's trip that we've been wearing them everywhere - soccer games, golf and my husband and the older girls took them to a Bruce Springsteen concert (I refused to go because I was soooo sick of the rain)......and then of course it didn't rain!

I'm going to pass on next summer and make our annual trip in April instead. We'll be back the summer of '05 probably.

oh no, we will be there tomorrow:(

I was talking to a CM at Member Serives today and he said there is another storm coming and it is predicted to be a very wet weekend:(

Like someone else said, I guess it is still better than staying home. But it will be nice with a few dry days!!!

We were in WDW August 17-24. This was our first summer trip, we swam every day, only one day did we get kicked out of the Luna Park pool. The rest of the time we managed to pick a good time to swim.
This was our most relaxing WDW vacation ever. We used the hot, rainy weather as an excuse to go nowhere! We did AK early entry (my 6-yr-old gets a dinosaur from Dinoland each trip, though I think he's finally got them all) and a few nights of Epcot, but never went to MK or MGM!

We got stuck at the BW dock on Tuesday because there was threat of a tornado. We were headed to our PS at Yachtsman, but decided to get off the boat and make a run for Flying Fish. They were more than half empty, and provided us with towels for drying off!

We had such a beautiful sunset on Saturday night, our last night, which was a perfect end to our trip.

We just returned from WDW and OKW yesterday, and we are far from dried out yet! We didn't get to do much after 3 any day because of the rain and storms. We did do Illuminations in the rain last Friday, but it had dwindled to a drizzle by then, and we were already drenched, so we didn't mind so much. We did notice they cut it short a bit though. We went back Tuesday night, and it was dry, and the show was back to it's normal size. WE never did make it to Fantasmic. It was lightning that kept us away from that one every time we tried!

Where else in the world can you go on vacation, have it pour almost everyday of your stay, and you still manage to make the most of it and have a good time??? DISNEY of course!!!!!

Sorry your trips were all drenched, but I am kind of glad to hear it. I was there in May 2001 during the "drought" and that was awful!!! It was also when the wildfires were threatening WDW. One morning, we walked outside to find we were covered in smoke. We couldn't see more han 2 feet in front of us, they cancelled the busses, and you would not believe how many people were complaining about that! I was like " hello? how can they have busses take us anywhere if the bus driver can't see where he is going? It was scary.

Also, during the drought, Disney shut down all the fountains. except the big one in Epcot. But the kids could not go running through any water, Donald's boat looked so sad, sitting there all dry with no water. I don't ever want to go back to Disney under those conditions again, it was depressing to not see all the little water fountains. So, to hear that Disney is getting drenched is a good sign they will not be suffering any drought conditions for awhile. :smooth:

We got soaked with the rest of you, too...... Were at CS 8/20 - 8/23 and OKW 8/23 - 8/26. Only had two nights when it wasn't pouring after 5PM... Luckily we got to lluminations and Fantasmic those two nights. The rain on Thursday 8/21 was unbelievable ... worst we have seen in our 30+ trips to WDW ....

But, even when you are not wet from the rain, the sweat is soaking you , all in all ...

A rainy day at WDW beats a sunny day at work ...
