Looking for advice... should I buy cheap rain pnchos (like at the dollar store) or the Mickey ones in WDW? Anyone know how much the ones in Disney are? Do they havea kid size?

I know it's going to rain, so I might as well be prepared.

We bought the ones at Disney. I really like them but I'm not sure they are any better than ones you could buy before you arrive. They did have kids sizes. We have kept ours and take them with us whenever we go somewhere that it might rain!

The Disney ponchos are about 5-7 dollars (I think). They have an adult size and a child size. I would get a few dollar store ponchos. We did purchase a few Disney onesbecause I forgot ours in the room, they were alot of money.

The dollars ones are also much more compact and thin and aren't as weighty - they don't feel real heavy as you wear them. Plus if you reuse them they fold up nice and compact and don't take up much space.

I agree with FogliaFamily. The thinner the better. It doesn't need to be thick to keep you dry and since it could rain pretty much every day you'll wind up bringing it every day.

One year we brought our ponchos with us every day to the parks just in case it rained and after four days we said, "Why are we carrying these around for the four us if we could just duck in and wait for it to pass?". So, of course, the next day we didn't bring the ponchos and it rained for six hours straight. We wound up buying ponchos from Disney and learned our lesson. The Disney ones aren't that much thicker than the other ones we brought but the thinner (and easier to stuff) they are the more likely you won't be tempted to just 'take a risk and not bring them today'. :)

We have done both.

I find that the Disney ones are great, but a little expensive. However, they are fairly durable and if they ever rip or any issue comes up, you just bring them back to any shop at the Parks and they will give you a replacement.

That being said, I got $1 ones for our upcoming trip. We have the Mickey ones from past trips, but this trip I just wanted something cheap and easy and I wanted to be able to pick my kids out from the masses more easily. I found ponchos in the Target $1 spot and got DD and I bright pink ones and bright yellow ones for DH and DS. Plus, I got an extra one to put over the stroller.

Hijack-Will cheap dollar store covers fit over umbrella strollers with a canopy?

Go cheap! LOL My friend actually bought me rain ponchos from the Dollar Store last year and we didn't even use them (it only spritzed). IMHO, the expensive Mickey ones just aren't worth it.

Yes, but get the adult size ones to cover. And the clear ones are better to let the kiddos see (made that mistake once :confused3 ) Our stroller is a Jeep umbrella style stroller. Canopy is not too big, but I do keep it open to help keep the plastic off DD's face.

Also, they tear easily to you need to be a little careful with them. But they do work well.

I would stick with the dollar store ones. I forgot ours this year, so we bought Mickey ones. (They do have them in kids sizes.) Although they were so very cute, they were also very heavy and bulky. We ended up leaving them in the room and just running thru the rain!

I just saw the adult and child size disposable ponchos today at Target in their Dollar Spot - we got them from Wal-Mart before we left, but no kids sizes and they did swallow the kids!

dollar store, 2 for a dollar, we used ours and yes the pack/squish nicely. They aren't as hot as the disney ones because they are thinner and kids were complaining about how hot the Disney ponchos were making them. Added bonus threw them away as we left for home.

I would go with cheap ones too! I'm not sure of your child's age but when we got one for our DS (then almost 3), the kid size Disney one was huge on him. I had to snap the thing up on the sides weird just to get it shorter so he didn't trip on it!

We always stock up at the dollar store, they have both adult and child sizes.

I bought a bunch of them since they were so cheap and instead of trying to dry out and re-pack them after we used them, I just tossed them when we got on the bus and threw new ones in the bag the next day. They were $1.00 for a package of 2 - not worth saving once wet!

we took Dolalr Store brand with us. Of all my trisp to Disney this was the only year we have used htem. I aggree smaller adn thinnner is better. We have one of each.

I also say do dollar store because so many people will buy the ones at Disney and everyone looks alike. If you get separated you can find your party easier if you are not all dressed alike.

Call me a poncho snob :snooty: but I truly like the ones that you can buy at WDW better. Last year I stocked up on the dollar store ones and when the rain hit and it did (we were there when it rained very hard every day :umbrella: ) the dollar store ponchos did not cut it. They clung to us like plastic wrap and we still got very wet in them. So, at the gift shop after Figment in Epcot we bought 4 Mickey ponchos ::MickeyMo . For us it was worth the money (about $24), even though we had to carry them with us when we took them off. The Mickey ponchos were a thicker material and did not cling, they were also longer which meant more coverage. My opinion is my own but I definitely won't be buying the dollar store ponchos this year! ;)

I was trying to remember what I didn't like about the dollar store ones that we took last time. This is exactly it! Thank you for reminding me! That's what I love about the DIS... I don't have to think for myself, everyone here does my thinking for me! :)

We found a good compromise with the rain ponchos. The dollar store ones tend to be too thin and the Disney ones tend to be too heavy and expensive. I've purchased some nice medium weight ones at our local Cost Cutters and they are great-enough to keep us dry and durable enough to use more than once.
