Rain Day Question

I've been to WDW three times and have been fortunate not to experience a rain day. But this time around it looks like there is a chance of rain twice. It's a week out but I do want to be prepared. Right now WeatherBug is predicting 40% one day and 30%/50% the next.

Is just taking an umbrella doable or should we pack a poncho too?

We have a Fantasmic Dining Package scheduled for one of the nights. If we get closer and rain is still predicted should we take a chance on Fantasmic not being canceled?

Would you go to MVMCP when it was raining or a chance or rain?

Heh. This just depends on your tolerance for getting wet (and if it's cold, staying warm). You could get torrential downpours or nothing at all. Umbrella probly won't keep you dry, nor would a poncho really either. Sandals are good. Or you can cram into a shop or covered ride. It really just depends on how wet you want to get. In the summer we just accept it and get soaked. In the winter we'd probly hang out inside somewhere unless it was unusually warm out.

Again still up to you. You'd get dinner at least. Rain usually passes mid-day, so Fantasmic will probly go on. But you never know. I would not change your plans based on a forecast.

Of course. If I bought the ticket, I'd go.

First of all, you're a week out, and I wouldn't rely on a forecast that far out. Second, a 30 to 50% chance of rain isn't very high, which means there's a very good chance it won't rain. I wouldn't bring an umbrella though, because it will be hard to deal with in crowds; ponchos are much easier.

Always pack a poncho. They are small enough and light enough that there is little to no benefit to not bringing one.

Make a decision day to day on whether or not to actually take it to the parks or not.

If you have a stroller, you will want something to cover that as well. We bring a few shower curtain liners from the $1 store and use binder clips to clip it to the stroller. Then, after we use it we just throw it away.

Pack a few ponchos! My family and I were at DHS last week and it poured. I really wished I would have remembered to pack them myself. The ones in the parks were $10. If you have a stroller, bring a cover or make sure a poncho covers it. Ours got soaked! Almost every store we went to didn't allow strollers and we had to leave it in stroller parking. Also, watch out how others swing their umbrellas. I felt lucky that we all left with both of our eyeballs :rotfl:

Pack a poncho, we went last night for a few hours, weather app showed light drizzle to no rain and it was a downpour. We had an umbrella but it really was difficult to stay under it with my LO so I had DH keep her covered while I used my hoodie for cover. Really regretted no poncho. Like others said, it is to light to not pack. Lesson learned.

The weather forecast is likely to change more than once before your trip!! ;)
They *do not* know that far out - even hard to predict a day before!

We just take our small foldable umbrellas for showers - we are not those that enjoy the parks during all day down pours - we head out for other things.

Like everyone says, take ponchos and not umbrellas. Yesterday, we were caught in a torrential downpour. Nothing would keep you dry in that event. Pack extra clothes, wear sandals. Take extra shoes if you can. We were walking around in water well past our ankles. We got completely soaked. We had already checked in all our luggage with resort airline check in, so we had to buy new clothes and shoes to wear on the plane home.

You can't control the weather, so just go with it. It rained the day of our Fantasmic Dining Package, but the rain stopped before the show and it went on. You just really never know.

Dress warm and wear a poncho...we are here now in the rain and have gotten through almost all of fantasyland and tomorroand and it's only 11am!

Thank you for all your replies. I'm having to rethink my wardrobe. I'm looking at upper 70's for most of the week right now.

Did you see the lows as well?

Pack and dress in layers. Bring shorts and pants, short sleeved and long sleeved and jackets than can easily be removed and carried.

Yes I did. Just wasn't planning on bringing warmer weather stuff before but now I guess I'll need to.

RE: packing for a trip this time of the year - layers are definitely a must. We are heading down in 10 days and I know that long jeans, t-shirts, tanks, sweatshirts, and fleeces (maybe some scarves and mittens, too) are necessary. Both tennis shoes and flip flops as well.

Spent a very wet day at the MK a few years ago - it rained non-stop from morning until 10 minutes before Wishes. We wore ponchos all day and I had an umbrella. I was glad for both. I had the dollar store ponchos and I think we each used more than one that day.

I always take an abundance of ponchos - at 2 for $1 - it's easy to use them and toss them.

We took an afternoon break and were very thankful for our dryer in the condo - put our shoes in there and we were ready for the rest of the day in dry shoes. If you aren't staying where there is a dryer - pack some newspaper - it works great for drying out shoes overnight.

We were lucky that it was just rain - not that cold.

The weather is crazy right now, so be prepared for anything. It was 80's and humid on Monday, and it's cool out today. I'm just glad the rain finally stopped! We have family visiting this week, and I have a feeling we aren't going to have the Florida weather they would have liked.
