Rain at WDW?

I am prepared for it to rain occasionally for brief periods of time. But it looks like it's going to rain all day next Sunday - which will be our day at AK. Never been, so, not sure what to expect. We could possibly re-arrange our trip and go to AK on Thursday - it was supposed to be a travel day between WDW and Universal as we switch hotels - but if AK is going to be miserable with rain all day, we can change it up.

First, often when the forecast in FL calls for all day rain it doesn’t happen that way. I would say that 2/3s of the time we’ve had forecasts like that the all day rain turned into a couple hours of rain. One of our true all day rain days was at AK. I actually liked that better than all day rain at MK because at AK most things are outside so you just put on the poncho and go. To me constantly having to put the poncho on and take it off gets really old. Others may have different opinions though.

But if it’s thunderstorms then a lot to do at AK probably shuts down so that’s not so good.

Truthfully, in my experience rain forecasts are a good thing because it helps with crowds. I would stick to your plan and bet that it won't spend the entire day raining. I'm going to be at MK on Sunday and I'm just going to roll with it. If it rains, it's not going to ruin your time. And often, it rains for short burst and then stops, so I wouldn't assume it's going to spend all day raining. Just my opinion!

I've heard that rain in AK is a good thing because it cools the place down and more of the animals come out. If it's raining or just rained, head to Kilimanjaro Safaris!

It does, but OP is talking about going next week, I doubt it's summer hot there now.

OP, at least in my opinion, it is what it is. We use ponchos. Cover up, walk around, enjoy.

Wandering around WDW in the rain can be a lot of fun. We had an all day rain during one of our days in Epcot. Crowds were very low and the rain wasn't hard just steady. We spend 8 hours wandering around the different lands. I am betting rain in AK will stir up the animals as well. Have fun there.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll pack an umbrella and some extra ponchos and make the best of it. I really liked the idea of a rest day in the middle of our trip - so not going to change that :)

Very very rare for it to rain all day. Plan for some brief afternoon showers.

Bring ponchos, windbreakers, or whatever else you think you might need..but this time of year, odds are you won't need them.

Where I'm at we're getting a light sprinkling rain right now and I believe this is the first rainfall this year for my area

We'll be in WDW on Sunday too! Hoping the rain keeps the crowds down, especially on the weekend ;) We've gone to WDW several years and only had one time when it rained almost every day of our trip. We had cheap ponchos but ended up buying the ones sold there but they were better quality. The one tip I have is to wear appropriate shoes because it frequently floods the walkways if there's a ton of rain. I ended up wearing Croc flats because they could be wet then dried pretty easily. I hate having wet shoes all day!

Next Sunday? Far too in the future to be worried about the weather, honestly. Look again on Saturday – even then, you're unlikely to get a perfect prediction.

What rides would shut down in rain at the parks? Our first day is Sunday too, and while I don't care that it's raining, I did wonder if things like 7DMT, BTM, and Barnstormer would close in the rain.

Our last trip was during a tropical storm. We had the best safari ever on our AK morning after it had been raining up until rope drop. Don’t cancel, put on your poncho and have fun!

Rain, no. Thunder yes. TT is about the only ride that closes in just rain.

Too far out for them to even have a guess, even the weather men. Wait till about 48 hours out, then check, Then check again at 24 hours. Then you can plan. Wasting time before that, honestly.
No matter what, bring ponchos and/or umbrellas. Waterproof shoes too. And go.

We are planning AK this Sunday as well. Saturday and Monday look great but Sunday, not so much. Earlier the forecast said 60% chance of rain and now it says 80%. But we are just hoping it isn’t all day rain.

I am local (live 12 miles from WDW) and this is only partly true. In the summer, during our tropical period, it does rain for short periods of time, and almost everyday. At this time of year, it rarely rains unless we have a cold front. Rain at this time of year can definitely be all day. Thankfully, there are no thunderstorms in the winter and spring.

it doesn't seem like it is tied to a cold front (i think the high is supposed to be 77) so maybe it won't rain all day??
Hoping for the best...this Sunday will be our only park day for our quick weekend trip....=)

Well, actually, it drops into the mid 60’s the next day, so it could be related to a cold front.

Perfect. Forecast is 77 and rainy. I'm coming from MI so that doesn't sound too bad to me LOL. We'll be at MK that day.

I see your signature - we'll be staying at the Polynesian too. It is a small world :D
