We are going to pre-buy our tickets and also our Express Pass which is the extra ticket for the specific date in September that we go!

What happens if it rains? Do most of the rides close down for that time since there are a lot of outdoor rides?

I have never been there before and am taking an 9 and 14 year old.

I don't want to buy the specific date express pass and then not be able to use it! Any advice???

Rain simply means you'll get wet. That's it. If the rain is too heavy, or if the winds are too heavy, some rides may close. If there's lightning within 5 miles, then all the outside rides shut down.

The only rides that I really wouldn't want to do in the rain are the coasters since the rain HURTS(did Millenium Force in the rain at CP and it wasn't fun)!!! Otherwise, there are three rides that are water rides, so it doesn't really matter if it is raining, Storm Force is covered, Spidey is inside, Cat in the Hat is inside, and I'm not quite sure what would happen on Doom; I guess it depends on which way the wind is blowing. You can also do Poseidan and the Sinbad show since they are inside.

USF is very rain friendly, you'll just get wet going between rides and on Jaws.

I don't mind the rain one bit! Just wasn't sure of the rides here would be open.

Just one more thing to worry about.

Hulk and Dr. Doom and Dueling Dragons still run during the rain (been on Hulk during rain..let's say it felt like hail...seriously. In the picture all 4 people in my row including me are covering their faces with their hands. Pretty funny picture, actually. didn't buy it though :( )

Rides close only when there's lightning in the area.

We did IOA last summer when it was raining and it really wasn't a problem. If you are planning on doing Dudley then you are pretty much going to get wet anyway!!

While Sinbad is under cover they employ a lot of elctrical and pyrotechnic effects. They will cancel the show for lightning. Happened to me in June.

Damo,

I had to laugh when I heard you CP experience. Mine is the same and MF and on the Magnum. Never have I felt such pain riding a coaster. It was like balls of hail beating off of your face and you could not even open your eyes...but as fools DH and I did it more than once LOL.

I've also been to IOA in the afternoon when showers moved in. No lightning so the park stayed open.
Ride op came on the speaker and said, "Ladies and Gentleman, Deuling Dragons has offically become a water ride." and the crowd cheered. Lots of people stayed in the queue and continued to ride. I rode in the front. Water had a slight stinging effect on the face and arms, but not that bad.
Rode Dr. Doom a few times with the rain really coming down, it was fun. They let me stay in my seat and ride again because noone was waiting as the park was about to close.

I usually ride coasters in the front row (unless the seats are stadium style and allow you to see over the people in front of you) because I need to see where I am going or else I get sick. Well, we rode Raptor, a B&M inverted, at CP, front row, in the rain. Since I had to keep my eyes closed because it was raining so hard and hurt so much, I got sick anyway. Lesson : if you need to keep your eyes open, don't ride coasters in the rain.
