What are lines like for RS FP about an hour or so after the park opens?

Think it depends on the day of the week and the time of year, but my estimate would be 50-65 minute line if you are getting in it one hour after the park opens.

I agree that it depends on when you're going (day of the week, time of the year, whether there is an EMH that morning, whether there is a special event that day, etc.). They no longer allow guests to line up before DCA opens to get a RSR FP which means there is a mad(ish) dash of guests heading to the FP machines when the park opens. The general consensus seems to be that the FPs are lasting a little longer now (since the change) - probably at least two hours (except on super busy days). When I've gone, FPs were still available an hour after opening (I was last there in May). The line only took about 5-10 minutes at that point. The return times were in the late afternoon/early-evening.

I personally don't thinks it's worth it to wait for a fast pass for this ride. We went straight to the ride as soon as the park opened & the only people in line before us had EMH. We waited about 45 mins. When we got off the ride the FP line was already giving out tickets to come back at 7pm. I just don't think it's worth it because you could wait in line for an FP & not get one

Agreed it completely depends. For example, today passed by the RSR FP distro kiosks around noon completely ignoring the signs assuming there were no more FPs when one of the kids notices the 4:45pm return time. When we returns to use them, the stand by wait time was only 40 mins. Single rider was only 10 mins.

Are the RSR FP's still not connected to the regular FP system? So if you pull a FP and the return time is in the evening can you pull more FP's or do you have to wait now like regular FP's? It has been 2 years since we were there.....

TIA!

In late June on a Thursday I walked right into the FP area a little over an hour after park opening, no line. My return was 11:25 and they still had them available for evening rides around 10:30 or so. Someone just recently came back and said there were passes available at 2:30pm on a Wednesday. An hour after park opening should not be an issue to get them.

RSR is now connected. I think that helps spread them out and leaves more available later.

For fast passes? An hour after park open there's little if no line at all. The ride itself, yes, the line builds quickly.

When was this? They're generally available at least an hour after opening according to trip reports (and my experience) over the last several months. It does depend on crowd levels, day etc. but unless you're arriving to the park "late" say after mid morning, they should be easily obtainable.

If you pull a. FP and the return time is way in the evening, don't worry, you won't be stuck without FPs all day. There will be a time you can get your next FP printed on the bottom of your FP. I'm not certain but I think it's something like 90 minutes or 2 hours after you pull your current FP.

We were there the week before Easter this year.

I can't comment on how long the ride was right at rope drop, but DH went to get FP when we got there - about 30 minutes after opening. He waited 15 minutes to get the FP. Our return time started around 1pm and we pretty much walked on (had to wait maybe 5 minutes)

When we were there in July, we walked into DCA around 2pm and got evening FP's. Only once in 11 days (yes we were there for 11 days!) did we not get FP when returning around lunch time and there were some crazy busy days while we were there:confused3

.

We were last there a year & a half ago. It's was the day after Mother's Day so it was busy. My parents go to DL twice a year though & they never be FP for this ride because whenever they go the FP line is stupid long. If it was a short line I guess I would do it but if the line is long I would just go straight to the ride but that's just me.

So if you go during a day where you have EMH and briskly walk straight to the ride you should get on in a decent amount of time? Or is this ride basically a mad dash and instant hour queue?

Last year, we got to DCA at opening, went straight to the RSR FP line, and waited about 20 minutes to get an FP for around 1:00 p.m. Not too bad.

This past June, we flew in early in the morning. By the time we parked at our hotel and walked over to DCA, it was 9:30 a.m. (30 minutes past opening). We walked right up to the FP machines and got FPs for 3:30 p.m. It worked out well to skip the whole line up and still get a decent return time. I think when we go in December, we will go straight to TSMM and Screamin. Then we'll go back for RSR FPs when the line dies down. I think it's a much better use of our time.

Could someone really explain the Wide Right Technique? Not sure I know how to visualize it. Is it how you line up or is it a special way to go to Carsland to get there quicker?

It's where you should be situated when the CMs lead the rope and the crowd to Carsland.

If you envisioned yourself standing in a box, you would be up against the front edge (the rope) and as far to the right side (the curb of the street) as possible. Ideally, you would be at the angle where the two sides meet.

When you arrive before rope drop, if a crowd of guests have filled the front of the "box," line up as far to the right as possible.

That is the Wide Right Technique.

If you arrive prior to the DCA gates opening, for example around 8am for a 9am opening, you can try "wide right."

Once you enter Buena Vista street, there's a rope at Carthay Circle. You should line up on the right side of that rope.

As the official park opening approaches, all sorts of activity happens RSR CMs getting ready. They stretch out an additional gas pump hose in front of the crowd. They use this hose to lead the crowd at a walking pace into the park and into Cars Land.

The trick is to remain on the right of the hose and then on the right side of Cars Land street. The CMs will implore you to stay on the black top, which is wise because you might slam into a trash can.

The reason the "wide right" technique works is because at the end of the street, turning into the RSR queue, the crowd/line is forced to funnel down into almost single file. If you have a stroller, I don't think the technique will work, or won't work as well.

With my family we held hands and stayed together throughout "wide right" and we were in our RSR car at 9:09 am following a 9am official opening. It was great.

We were there this past Friday for early entry. Pulled FPs about 45 minutes after official park opening. Return time was 11:55 I think. The line was not long and moved very quickly.

This us exactly why "wide right" is a recommended strategy. If you arrive early and position yourself in the front and to the right, when everybody else is instructed to move the right they will be filtering in behind you.
