The Rack Rates for Wilderness Lodge is $370 per night for July and the required points for a weekday night is 30 and weekend is 60. Assuming you rent some points for $10 per point then a seven night stay would be 270 (30 x 5 + 60 x 2) points or $2700. Whereas 7 nights x $370 is only $2590. Therefor I see no advantage of renting points at $10 each. What am I missing ?

******************SORRY FOR THE CAPS THE KEYBOARD IS MESSED UP***************

OK SAY YOU RENT FROM SUN -THUR AT 30 POINTS A NIGHT AT 10.00 PER POINT THAT EQUALS

150 POINTS @10.00

1500.00 WITH OUT THE 11% TAX ON THE ROOM

1875.00 PLUS TAX FOR THE RACK RATE + 203.00 FOR TAX=-2078.00

SO THAT IS WERE THE BREAK COMES INTO PLAY

AND IF YOU RENT A BIGGER ROOM IT COST MORE MONEY..

YOU ALSO NEED TO LOOK AT THE CORRECT RATES YOU NEED TO LOOK AT THE WILDRENESS LODGE VILLAS

2002 Room Rates

FURTHER MORE I ALSO THING THAT POINTS SOLD AT 10.00 PER POINT IS VERY FAIR.

YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT WHEN THE POINTS CAME FROM IE THE VALUE OF OKW POINT IS LESS THAN POINTS FROM BOARDWALK OR BEACH CLUB..

10.00 PER POINT IS VERY FAIR

obrien040362, I agree your numbers are flawed. You compared apples to oranges. Using your example, there are 2 points totals that are 30/60, they are 2 BR Adventure season and 1 BR Magic season. Assuming the 2 BR, it's actually $520 per night plus the 11% tax or $4040 compared to the $2700 on points. Of course there will be specials and most will not pay the rack rate. Also the 5 day non weekend stay is the very best bargain available.

DBorges, I don't think there is any difference in the value of a DVC points regardless of when and where it was purchased though the cost will vary depending on specifics.

I just rented points at Old Key West for a one bedroom for $8 per point. My renter will using 90 points for a five night stay (Sunday throught Thursday) in early November for $720. If you are willing to avoid a Friday or Saturday night stay, renting through points is a tremendous value, especially taking into account the room tax which now may be a little higher than 11%. I thought it was 12.5% in Miami last week when we stayed at Loews but I may be wrong about that.

All of the Disney resorts are taxed at 11%, with the exception of the All Stars which are 12%. (It's due to their geographical location.)

Wonder If I can book weekday with points and pay for the weekend with rack rates without having to switch rooms ?

Several posters have reported that they have done this. The reservations need to be "linked" in the system. IIRC, you call MS with the CRO ressie number and ask to have this done. Then you repeat the request at check in. HTH.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. The points all have the same "value" no matter which DVC resort is the home resort. The only difference is the ability to make reservations earlier at the home resort.

The other thing to take into consideration is the availablity of the room at the rack rate. Keep in mind, CRO has relatively few rooms available until the 60 day window. Whereas a DVC member can get the room at the 11/7 window. In my opinion, this is as important as the price of the room.

If that's the way you feel, I wouldn't rent points. Pay what Disney charges you. Paying a quarter of what Disney charges you isn't enough? As Dborges said, you save over $800 bucks. Check out a GV at the Okw, 38 points per night, or $380 per night. That's not a steal? What does Disney charge $700 to $1000 per night plus tax? A two bedroom at the BW, 24 pts $240 per night, It depends when you call Disney, I've been quoted between $680 to $800 per night plus the 11% tax, during the "slow" times they advertise for a two bedroom. Lately, I've yet to get a room at the "official" rates you see on the sites, unless I use an AP at another resort. If DVCers are coming back filling up the rooms, (like I've been seeing after 9/11) The rooms go up in price. What cost $370 on the site, when you want it at the 60 day period is probably closer to $500 per night. As llpp said, you can't guarentee anything unless it's through a DVC member. Ten dollars a point is a joke, but people can sell their corvette for gremlin' prices, I don't really care, but to hear it's TOO high from a renter, this is the first time I have ever posted this "LOL"!

I looked EVERYWHERE for the envelope you sent the card in.....and I think it got thrown in the trash by hubby (under the coffee grounds from that morning and various other disgusting growths from the veggie drawer that noone ever looks in) :)) Thank you so much for your help and the card....I thought about sending you the .34 cents for your trouble and stamp,,,then I figured, thats kinda silly...to spend 34 MORE cents to thank YOU for spending .34 cents on me,,,,,LMAO it got too funny,,,,,so Ithought about sending you a dollar.....then,,,,as I said, your address got lost in the sauce :)

I ramble, forgive me....I have an appt. for the "Welcome HOMe" tour on wednesday, cant wait.....Ive even got hubby almost convinced (not to buy in,but to not mind when I go to "home" without him :)) Thanks again Peterd and your post really makes me know that when I buy into DVC,Im doing the right thing :)
Mae  :D :jester:

Mae, you're welcome, My union picked up the .34 cents. We got a rate of 167 in Nov at the HRH hoping to get lower as we get closer. Good luck with DVC, you're gonna love it. As for your' husband, call him from the ESPN bar at the BWV during a monday night game, and tell him who's there. They usually have special guests at halftime. About 4 years ago, my sons met Terrell Davis there after an interview with Firestone. My son is also a big Florida Marlin fan, and he got to watch game 7 of the world series there, he was in heaven. Enjoy!
