Race Reports, Kudos and Encouragement for September 8th and 9th Racers!

Disclaimer:I just wrote a really inspiring/long reply but it didn't post so this one isn't going to be as exciting.

Congrats to all other runners this weekend! You rock!

I did the Ikea half here in Pittsburgh. I didn't want to go to the race the morning of but I did and despite being slower (2:21:12) than my hoped for time (2:15) I met some cool people and had fun! Now on to Tower of Terror!

Jen,

Great effort on the last minute race(s) entry! :thumbsup2 OK, the image of you crossing the line hand in hand with your DDs 6 and 4 would make any race, any weather, any location, any entry fee absolutely worth it!! :goodvibes Truly one of those spontaneous family moments you can always cherish. Did you get photos?

Kiena,

Great job on the half marathon! :thumbsup2 I applaud your finish time, but I know you didn't finish as fast as you would have liked; however, it is an IKEA race, so can I assume they had you assemble furniture as you were racing? :rotfl2:

Great job!!!

Great reports. I think it would be cool to be out of town and participate in a nice small race. How much fun!

And disnutt, I never want to do a race the morning of, but once I get going I always have a good time
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
enjoy,
Duane

Jen, Kienna, Duane, and Pat---WTG! You guys rock!!!!! Thanks for all the reports!:cool1:

The race overall was fun, the organizers were really nice. DD6 and I both won a door prize and I also placed 3rd in my age group and got a little bitty medal. There weren't many in my age group, but in my book a placing is a placing!!!! I had an older guy come up to me and tell me he loved my shirt. I think he was in the 60-70 year old group and FAST! He said he always tells people that are last in a race that they are faster than everyone sitting at home on their butts! Ain't That the Truth!!!!

Go, Jen! Go, Jen! :woohoo: An age-group award and some "love" from a faster runner -- it doesn't get much better than that! Congratulations!

This past weekend I took a short trip out to Seattle with my friend Debbie to run the Ryka Iron Girl 10K. The event was only open to women. They had 434 ladies in the 10K and 775 ladies in the 5K. We ran around Green Lake, which is absolutely gorgeous....and the 10Ks did two loops around. Debbie is a faster runner than me, but since this was her first race she wanted to make sure she didn't go out too fast. We hung out together for the first mile, but I lost her at the water stop as she kept running and I walked long enough to get some fluids down my throat. I was really hoping to PR this race, but I wanted to have fun too, so it was nice to enjoy the scenery. I think the flat course and being closer to sea level definitely helped because I was running pretty fast...and it didn't feel too hard. I was astounded when at the half way mark I was below a 30 min 5K....first time ever..!! I knew at mile 5 that I had a good chance of making my goal of a sub 60 min 10K.

My results:
time: 0:57:56
overall place: 201 out of 434
division: F2529
division place: 29
division total: 79

PR...PR...PR..!!!!

You all are AWESOME!!
Jen, what an inspiration!! Out on vacation and pop in to do a 5K!!:woohoo: and Wendy said it so well!
Kienna, that was a GREAT time!! Please come back and tell us a little about the course..pretty,please? :)
Leanna, WOW!! Congratulations!! Now, where was your trusty camera?? :confused3
Duane, glad the bridge run was fun! I just read in RW what to do when you saw a news crew...:lmao:
Pat, PROUD of you and Jim!!:thumbsup2

Actually we had to carry Swedish meatballs on spoons without dropping or eating them!:rotfl:

Maherae-The course was out and back (and uphill both ways!) on a section of the Montour Run Trail which is an awesome rails-to-trails project. The surface was limestone so it was a little hard on the joints. The trail is just one train track wide most of the way so once the fast folks turned around it was difficult and possibly unsafe to try to pass. There is a cool train tunnel on the course, too!

Leana, Great job on your 10K PR effort! :thumbsup2

OMG, Leana! I was at that race. We must have finished right by each other - I was at 57:46! It was my first 10K. RYKA/Iron Girl put on a really nice event. It felt so good coming in under 60 minutes.

What were you wearing? I am 5'5" with black hair and wore a black running skirt and pink top.

Blueroses, you were there too? I was wearing a black and yellow run skirt and a blue top that said "Run Calgary" on the back. We may have leap frogged each other! I'll post a pic later and see if you recognize me.

I think I saw you (I checked the photos on your blog)! My husband didn't snap too many pictures of that race, but the ones he did take are on Flickr. We have been chasing each other! My time at the Minnie was 1:43:47. And I see you're doing the ToT and the Goofy too.

I hope you had a good time in Seattle. One day I want to go to Calgary; I keep running into cool people from there, so it must be a nice place. :)

I'll take a minute to toss snaps & congrats to my friend & co-worker, Chris C., who was the OVERALL WINNER in the SGK 5K Race for the Cure @ WDW on Sunday.

I told him he'd better have, racing a bunch of girls!!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

But seriously, 5K in under 17 minutes. I get winded just thinking about it.......
