21 – MotoMiker (), RunRookie (Rick) Polar Dash Half Marathon

Sunday, 22 Jan

:jumping1: GO! WISH Team GO! :jumping1:

The Polar Dash -- temp in the low twenties (not including the windchill off Lake Michigan), recent 4-6in snowfall the day from the day before, and on a bike path following the beach! Sounds like fun to us Chicagoans!!

Major kudos and bragging rights when we cross that finish line! And they better be handing out more than one cup of hot chocolate! :rotfl:

Have a great race! I was feeling sorry for myself because the 1/2 I'm running tomorrow was supposed to have temps in the 50's and now they are forecasted in the upper 20's, but that's with no lake windchill or snow. I'll think of you guys when I'm having a pity party and wondering why I thought a 1/2 in the midwest during January was a good idea...

You have a great race too! Know that we will be cheering you on as we are running -- you are never alone! :goodvibes

What time is your race? Ours starts at 9:30am.

I've got a Half tomorrow in the Auburn, AL and the temps are going to be a pleasant 60 at race time. Just hoping the rain holds off. Kudo's to those running in freezing temps. Getting started is the hardest part. It's all downhill after you warmup so to speak.

The start time isn't until 11, so at least it'll be the warmest part of the day!

My race is a point to point and ends in Auburn, KS. I wish it would be that warm in the Auburn I'll be in tomorrow! Have a great race!

Nice! When we get to 11AM, we will already be on our way back towards the finish line (it is an out-and-back course). Probably around Mile 9. We will give you a big cheer for your race start! Listen close for it! :thumbsup2

Hope all your races went well. Mine was delayed till tomorrow due to a tornado watch. Thankfully that is all it was. So got an extra night at the hotel and ready to go tomorrow.

How was your race?

Ours went okay. All three of us finished! It was no PR -- the weather and course conditions were not conducive to fast running. But we did it (even though it was snowing and quite cold). Thankfully, we were all well outfitted for the weather.

They had to change the course due to snow making part of it impassable; turning it into a 10K 'loop' of sorts. But the biggest disappointment was that they didn't have the promised hot chocolate at the finish! I was so looking forward to that! The medal was awesome! Will write my race report tomorrow.

Thankfully it was just a watch! Good luck tomorrow, hopefully the weather cooperates!

Sounds like we ran similar races! There wasn't snow, but we ran a large portion of the race on gravel roads and there were lots of hills which killed my feet and my already tired legs. I was so focused on not falling that the race went by quickly, but it was my slowest non-disney 1/2 yet. I went to the post race meal afterwards, but being a back of the packer in local races made me one of the last ones there and the line for food was long. I opted for a post race burger and coffee on the way home.
I saw the picture of your medal on FB and it's super nice! We got finisher hoodies and little dog tag sized medals.
Congrats on your race!

Finished 15th overall today at my race. Had a blast. Hilly course, so well short of PR. But this is just my 3rd Half.

I would be very disappointed about the lack of hot chocolate if it was promised.

Stitch- the hoodie sounds very cool. I got a small medal, but also a really cool Northface Tech shirt.

Congratulations to all you brave folks who got out this weekend for your events!
:cheer2: :yay:  :cool1: :thumbsup2
