Race Reports/Encouragement/Kudos for April 12th and 13th!

...an age group winner. Great stuff! I figure that I will be up for some age group awards in about 58 years when I turn 90.

Sorry for the late report, but M'Lisse and I just got back from the great white north (Pennsylvania).
We were traveling north to attend my nephew's wedding. While we were going to be there, M'Lisse thought it would be great if we could "do a run" while in the area, so we signed up for the Emmaus 4 Miler. In the weeks preceding this run, I've been having issues with my left knee. I finally went to a doctor, who diagnosed it as jumper's knee (I was expecting runners knee). I was given some stretching exercises, but basically told that I will need to take a 6-8 week break for it to fully heal. I had cut back on the running miles, which has helped, but the knee issues continue.

In the week prior to this run, M'Lisse had done a 5 mile run, and a 4 mile run. After the 5 mile run, she said that her hip was bothering her. After the 4 mile run, she could hardly go up stairs. Finally, on Sunday morning, I convinced her that nothing good could come from her trying to run, or walk, when she couldn't even ascend stairs properly.

As we drove to Emmaus High School, the temperature was sub 50's. When we arrived, we found a few hundred runners assembling in the school and parking lot. I decided to wear my long sleeve shirt from "the Goofy", without a vest. Finally, it was time to assemble in the street for the start. All morning, I told myself that this was just going to be a training run, and that I didn't need to push it due to my knee. Well, when the gun goes off, and the herd starts moving out, so does rationale. This 4 miler was a continual transition from upward grades to downward grades. (Why does it always seem that there are more grades going up than going down?) As I checked my Garmin, I could tell that I was moving at a pretty good pace. I remembered John Bingham and Coach Jenny saying to "take what the day gives you", so I decided to go with it. As I approached 3.5 miles, I started to push a little harder, and the last 200 yards was taking whatever was left to give. I crossed the line at 36:44, for an average pace of 9:11 per mile. This was a great time for me, especially with my lack of training the past few weeks.

M'Lisse was happy to see me, and congratulated me on my time. She was obviously disappointed that she didn't run, but I reminded her that the Minnie was only a few weeks away, and she needed to heal for that. Hopefully, she'll be at the starting line ready to go, but I think that we may try to take it easy so as to not reinjure her hip, or my knee. (Where have I heard this before?)

Congratulations Denny! NOw takie it easy on that knee! ;) :wizard: to M'lisse to for healing. I know hip problems. They stink. Rest will do more for her than anything else, though.
