Good luck fellow racers! Let's hope we all meet our "A" goals.

Maura

Thanks! Tomorrow is my first race ever so very excited. Good luck to everyone else racing this weekend! :cheer2:

WISHing all a great race!

Maura, I don't know much about running superstition, but I have to share: my iPhone Scrabble letters came up as JMASGAT this morning. That's got to be a good sign you'll meet or exceed your goals, no?

Carissanboys, I hope you enjoy your first race and get hooked like the rest of us! Race for the Cure is a really special one.

I did enjoy it and I was hooked before I even competed. ;) I have a 10k in two weeks and will be doing the half at WDW in January. I'm also considering doing another half in March. :rolleyes1

My race report (brief)......great weather (start temp 50F, didn't get past 60 or so, sun, but not too hot)...course was okay (lets just say there is lots of empty in Detroit!)...ran over the bridge into Canada (total congestion at bridge where it narrowed. My slowest mile all race)...along the Detroit River in Windsor, Ontario...back through the tunnel (much harder than the bridge--steeper gradient and warmer temp)....Garmin dropped out during the tunnel, leaving me with a .9 mile gap the rest of the race (sorta made figuring fuel stops and mile markers a little tougher). Run...run....run....Detroit, Indian Village, Belle Isle, River Walk, and finally Lafayette ave. Tired by the end, but stuck with my fuel/hydration plan. Felt MUCH better finishing and during latter race than during the Disney full in January, so that made me feel good. Not too sore now.

So the result? 3:53:34, PR by 15 minutes, Qualified for Boston, and unbelievably finished 2nd in my age group!

Couldn't ask for more.

Maura

That's very awesome Maura
Congrats!!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
I have been following your training for months.

Carrisanboys Congrats on the 1st race!!! Woohoo!!! So glad you enjoyed it, they are totally addictive :cheer2:

Jeremy Congrats on the PR!!! :cheer2:

Maura :cool1: :woohoo: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: WTG!!! CONGRATS ON BQing!!!!! WOOOHOOO!!! We watched the weather last night with you in mind, so glad the temps were sooo nice :) And 2nd in your group to boot? WOW! You must be flying on Cloud9! :cloud9:

WTG everyone!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Maura- Congrats on the PR and Boston!! Registration opens tomorrow, and I'm flying out to cheer on my dad, so I'll be there cheering you on in April!!

I had Nike this morning! It was my first and I finished so I was happy, San Francisco is a little more hilly than WDW so I think I'll be in good shape for January. Weather could not have been better, it was overcast and sprinkly until I got to about Mile 21/22 when it started raining, but it was cold or windy so that was good. The down side was that they ran out of the tiffany necklaces when I finished. :sad1: They were even giving out left overs from last year. So hopefully they'll make more and mail them out.

Congrats on all the races everyone!!

Congratulations Maura on your BQ.

Carissanboys Great job on your first 5K

carissanboys Great job....and now you're getting hooked. Seems like it always happens!

Jeremy Congrats! That truly was fantastic!

Kim Way to go on finishing your first marathon---and in SF, no less! I still don't get how a race that knows how many runners are registered can run out of a medal/necklace. Hope you get your well deserved bling. (I probably would have gone ape-s@#t)

And after 1 hour and multiple links (thanks, facebook!) I am provisionally registered for Boston (they have to verify my time). Now it's time to figure out the rest of my race schedule for next year.

Maura

I finished my second half marathon in Columbus this morning and it went great. I got a new PR of 3:07:42. Over 20 minutes below my Cleveland Half time in May. A more complete lowdown on the event can be seen http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=38620182&postcount=28. Thanks everyone for your encouragement.

WTG Jeremy! I read your account of the race and am so glad you had such a great experience. :thumbsup2

Woohoo Maura! I wanna be like you when I become a grown up runner. :goodvibes

Congrats Kim on finishing your first marathon!

Congrats Kim!!! But what a bummer on them running out of medals :( That seriously stinks! I hope they make more and mail you the current year. Have they posted anything on their website or can you email and make sure your name is on a list if they are going to send them out? Hope everything works out  But a big :cheer2::cheer2: on the finish!

I just got an email from Nike responding to my email. I'm added to the list of those who didn't get necklaces and they are going to be making more and mailing them out. I'm hoping that a fireman in a tux will deliever it to me. I saw a friend's necklace this morning and it's pretty. It's silver, on a delicate chain w/ a rectangular charm that says I Run To Be on it, which was this year's theme/motto. Yea!! I'm so excited for it to come!!

Congratulations to everyone!

Maura - way to go on the BQ!
Jeremy - great PR!
Kim - great job on a challenging couse

My race ended badly. It was my third half marathon. Absolutely Goldilocks weather... WDW half = too cold, St Louis half = too hot. This one, just right. Around 50 at the start. I strained a quad in my right thigh and walked in from mile 9. Up to that point I was doing great, 12:14 pace. Right where I wanted to be. Not sure what happened either. I did 14 a couple weeks ago and this was just a long run in my plan for a winter marathon. I've never been sidelined before. Ice bath helped and I can now take stairs like a grown up. One day at a time....

Ronda

Kim wonderful news on the medal. :woohoo: i'm so glad to hear they are working on getting new ones made. :)

Ronda Yay on the stairs! I hope the next race goes better. Just stay away from bears offering porridge.

Maura - CONGRATULATIONS! :cool1: :worship:

We have a friend in our Galloway group who also BQ'd last weekend, so it's shaping up to be a great race next year!

Jeremy - Terrific job on the PR! You're making wonderful progress!

Ronda - Sorry you had such a tough time. Sometimes it just isn't meant to be. Hate it when it happens on the "right" day!

Kim - Congrats on finishing Nike. I had a BUNCH of friends from my Galloway group out there doing both the half and the full, but I hadn't heard about the medal fiasco yet. What a bummer! The firemen in tuxedos are the reason I want to do the race, and I'd be heartbroken. They should at least send you a case of Ghirardelli chocolate...
