Good luck everyone.
I didn't post earlier about the race I did this morning because it was going to be a race day decision. I was looking for a tune up race before the Columbus Half Marathon and decided to do the Dan Emmett's Music and Arts Festival/UPI 5 miler. This was my first ever 5 miler. I've done several 5K's, 4 milers, and half marathons but never a 5 miler. So I wasn't too sure about pacing and what time to shoot for. After plugging my various PR's into McMillian and getting times ranging from 56:30-1:02:00, I decided to make 1:00:00 my goal. The faster predictions were from using shorter races in cooler conditions and the slower predictions were from using longer races in warmer conditions.
This race ended up being a case of The good, the bad, and the exciting, fortunately there was no ugly.
First, the good, official results aren't out yet but I finished in approx 58:35 a minute and a half faster than my goal. The bad was my pacing. I ended up going out too fast in the first mile and ended up fading from there. My mile splits (per Garmin) were 11:18, 11:23, 11:36, 12:02, 12:02. Finally the exciting. In June 2007, I did my first 5K. At the time, I wasn't really training and entire to support the charity. I finished in 59:09. In October 2010, I beat that time easily in a 4 miler (51:30) and now today I've beat it in a 5 miler (58:35ish). My long term 5K goal is to finish a 5k in 29:34; half the time of my original 5K. Then shoot for sub 59:09 10K.
