Who will participate in the Race for the Taste 10/08/06?
I just found it on the WDWINFO-pages and DW and I are seriously considering to do that race as it will take place during our stay at WDW 10-04 til 10/14.

We're going to try to be there, but it will depend on DD13's soccer schedule. She had a game last year, so we missed it

Hi Mel,
as there are 5 months left to go I knew it would be difficult to find someone to make a commitment now ;)
But we´re glad to see that there may be more DISers running :wave2:

Come on over to the walking/running club thread! Most of us are training for the DL or WDW half/full/Goofy, but there were a few last year that did Race for the Taste also. We'd love to have you hang out with us!

DH (wfloyd) and I will be there that weekend, too. I will probably do the Komen Race for the Cure, and DH will do Race for the Taste. We both did both races last year (we were able to bring a babysitter), and had a great time!!! :thumbsup2

We plan on doing the Komen Race for the Cure too - it also takes place over here in Frankfurt/Germany. I think in July or August. It's 5K over here along the River Main in the heart of the city.

After participating in the Minnie, DH said he would have NO problem returning to do the Race for the Taste!! I was shocked and pleased!! Looks like we'll be there!!

This is the first I have heard of this race. Can anyone tell me more about it? I have found the website, but it is lacking in information. Where is the course run, I mean I know EPCOT but it almost has to be outside of EPCOT somewhere doesn't it? I have been desperately looking for a 10k for half for October so that I can help get used to racing before the Marathon in January.

Dana

Dana, here's a blurb I found...

Athletes will enjoy a ceremonial toast to start the race. During the run, participants will be entertained by festive music and entertainment. Race for the Taste 10K will start at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex then move on to Disney-MGM Studios' new attraction, Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show. Runners will continue along Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts and finish in World Showcase at Epcot, the center of the Food and Wine Festival.

Disney's Race for the Taste 10K is part of a three-day weekend of events for The Endurance Series at Walt Disney World Resort that will also include the Komen Central Florida Race for the Cure 5K (Oct. 8), benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Foundation, Disney's Cross Country Classic (Oct. 7.) and Disney's "Go the Distance" Expo (Oct. 7-8).

Basically, it sounds like it's the last 2/3 of the 15K for the Minnie. If you check out that map, you'll see that mile three starts alongside WWoS, so for Taste, they'll probably start in WWoS parking lot. It was a great course, Dana..come on down!!! :Pinkbounc

PLUS!!!!! They just announced that there will be a finisher's medal!!!! Yeah, more jewelry!! Anne

I am seriously considering doing this. If I read correctly the race starts at 9am right?! If that's the case I can drive down that morning for the run, and just make it a day trip. Which I would have to do considering the fact that we will be spending 4 days at WDW the week before!! And the good news is I am not getting too much flack from DH about it so far either!!

Dana

Dana, on the WWoS site, it says the race will start at 7 a.m. Just think of how there will be no traffic!! ;)

Yeesh!! That might make it a bit harder. In order for me to get to Disney by 6am (so that I could be ready for a 7am race) I would have to leave my house at 3:30am. Maybe I can talk David into us staying at a Value resort for the night?!

Just wanted to add this, it's got a bit more information on the whole "food" thing!!

Disney's Race for the Taste 10K will begin with light, early-morning appetizers on Oct. 9 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, prior to the race's 7 a.m. start time. During the race, participants will run through the Disney-MGM Studios, past Disney's BoardWalk Resort and into Epcot for a final loop around the World Showcase area, home to the festival that inspired the tasty name change.

Thanks for all the additional info.

Will there be a shuttle to get us back to the start? We may have some supporters with us, but I want to make sure that we'll get back to our car.
Of course we want to return to our hotel (PopCentury) ASAP to have a shower and then hit the parks again.

I saw the medal at the expo this weekend. It is soooooo cool!! I wish I could do it, but my checkbook says 4 Disney trips in a year is the limit :confused3

Tiff!!! Please describe the medal!!!! Susan and I have been debating what they would do so we are both eager to hear what they came up with :cool1:

The Minnie Medal was very kewl looking and I'm still keeping that race in my book for next May but we're worried that we won't be able to get to the Race for the Taste until Oct2008 :(

I have wondered if they provide transportation too but after the Minnie figured they didn't which is a bump in our road since we never rent a car.

I'm off to see the Minnie photos, I read that they posted them and I can't wait to see where the photographers are, gotta be prepared for them in 2007 ;) So I know where to smile and when LOL

Good luck to those doing the Race for the Taste this year. It sounds extremely kewl.

Tiff, I took pictures of all of the medals!!! Where was the Race for the Taste one??!! Arrrggghhhh!! I tried, I really tried!!! :confused3
