I've already consulted Runner's World's "dress the runner" tool, but I want to know what you all recommend wearing for the marathon. Thanks! :)

1. Something you have already worn on a long run (i.e. don't wear anything new).

2. Do not wear cotton--use synthetics--preferably those that are some form of wicking material that "wicks away moisture".

3. Bring 2 outfits---one for warm weather, one for extrem cold (i.e. start temps in the 30s). Lots of questions when you come from a client different than the climate in Florida---just try to make sure the materials are somewhat similar. Unless we have a January heatwave----it won't be any trouble. The problem mentioned in #1 is when someone wheres a brand new outfit they have never tried....the skin isn't used to it--you haven't worked out the kinks in it and you can get some annoying rubbing or some other things going on that you weren't prepared for.

4. Bring peel away clothes to stay warm for the start and in the first little bit of racing. Buy these at Goodwill or any thrift store. Cut slits into coverpants and use duct tape so that you can remove them over your shoe.

5. Do NOT NOT NOT wear new running shoes--you need something you have already worn that still has some race miles left. If you need a new pair, buy them now and wear them now.

Lisa has already offered all the advice you will need.

I am a Penguin'! I follow the John Bingham recommendation and bring a variety of what I use for the different weather conditions cold/warm that we may face. Coming from the north this past January while it was cooler for the start of the marathon, I brought shorts and t-shirt (our WISH shirt) for the event. I planned on taking the 7 hours so I figured it would be warm as the morning progressed. I was comfortable. I peeled off the layering as I went (sweat pants with slits as recommended and sweatshirt). I had cheap gloves too for the wait. While waiting my feet got cold, but that was it.

Lisa's Dad had recommended getting tube socks to use as arm warmers and peel as things warmed up. You can cut toes out of them and you're good to go!

Oh, yes I also make sure I bring my running stuff in a carry on for the plane. I feel better knowing it is with me.

With the warmer winter we are experiencing I fear it being too warm for me. I definitely slow down as the temps increase. I'm slow already so I worry about it being warmer.

It is a real "fashion" show in the wee hours of the a.m. :teeth:

Some folks will be wearing costumes and such, it is fun to see them.

thanks for the awesome feedback!! I will definitely bring more than one outfit and many layers!

Purchase layers larger than you normally wear. Especially those that will be on the outside. YOu might look like hte michelan man--but sometimes though you might be a medium--it takes a 2x sweatshirt to cover all those layers.
