Good Day!
When using the RAC desk do you tip the person handling your bags, like you would at curbside checkin at the airport?
Thanks for the info

I had never given that any thought before. But, there have been a bunch of posts saying that people were tipping them. So...I would love to hear from others as to whom they tip...the person actually checking them in, or also the person tagging the bags. I've always had two people working the desk.

Yes, you would tip them just like you would tip a curb-side check-in agent at the airport. $1-2 per bag is the norm.

I just tip the person checking us in. I just figured it went into a common tip jar for all those working the desk during that time.

Thanks for the replies!
I have used RAC a couple of times in the past and it never occured to me to tip the RAC staff (I am feeling embarrassed now).
Today in thinking through our plans for October, it occured to me that perhaps I should be tipping these folks.
I just want to do the correct thing

I am embarrassed too. I try to be so good about tipping everyone, I even print out mousekeeping envelopes but I did not tip the RAC guy on our last trip. I will be certain to do so on our upcoming trip.

This is a little off topic, but I was hoping that since you have used RAC before you could explain the time line and process to me. My flight leaves at 10:30am. What time should I check in with RAC. I am flying Airtran although I don't think that matters. Any help would be much appriciated.

Thanks,
Erin

The airline you are flying on does indeed make a difference. Only those participating airlines are able to use RAC...but AirTran is one of them now as far as I know.
So....this is the 'how to' for RAC. You are able to check your bags through and have your boarding pass done up to 12 hrs. before you depart. And you have to do it no later than 3 hrs beforehand. So...for a 10:30 am flight, you will have to check your bags no later than 7:30 that morning. I like to get to the RAC desk about 6 am since the lines are non-existent at that time. They open at 5 am and close around 2 pm.
Everyone in your group must be at the RAC desk...this is the same thing as checking in at the airport, so all must be there, with ID in hand. Your bags will be tagged with the appropriate tags for your home airport destination. You will get your boarding passes at this time. Then, leave your carryon bags with bell services, and head off to do whatever you feel like until it is time to head to the airport for your return flight.
If you are using DME to get back to the airport...be sure to leave enough time to retrieve your carryons...you will be picked up by DME around 7:45ish..in your case you won't have time to do anything other than grab breakfast before heading out. Most towncar companies will pick you up about 2 hrs. 15 mins or so before your flight departure. Don't try to cut it too close...those security lines at MCO can get brutal and you could end up in line for an hour!!!

Thank You for the information. Now I can quit obsessing about it. I have most everything else planned, now I can move on to something else. Thanks again!
Erin
