The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose.... The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of time. But it was a beginning.

My DH woke me up last night charging into our bedroom to tell me that Robert Jordan had passed. And, apparently, the final book was never finished....don't know what they're going to do about that.

I hope he left detailed notes. Going through 11 books only to be left hanging...

From what I've read, he'd been dictating the book onto tape as well as making outlines for the finale and notes. Additionally, he told Jason (dragonmount) and Harriet the final tale a few weeks back -- almost as if he knew it would be close.

I think the last book will come, but not for a while. Right now, it's just very depressing as I'd hoped the treatment would give him more time...

Life is a dream and all dreams must end..

WHAT?! No! I knew he was sick, but I hadn't heard anything for awhile. I'm so sad.:sad1: I love those books.

I swear I thought my husband was going to cry when he told me. He has been a faithful Jordan reader for years. He even got me involved in reading the Wheel of Time.

From what DH has told me, Jordan had very detailed notes and for the last year or so has been dictating to a couple of people. There will be a final book, when I dont know. I believe there is a website WOTmania or something like that. I know my DH visits often for updates and what not!

Just bumping this thread...

I was distressed to learn that Tor has decided to publish Book "12" of The Wheel of Time in three volumes, perhaps extending through 2012 before the final part is released.

I was very much looking forward to reading the series through just one more time... I really don't feel driven, at this point, to even start rereading the series until the last part of the last book is on its way to the presses.

Three books? That's just mean. Good to know that they're planning on finishing up the series though.

Lovely.

My husband loves these books and has been encouraging me to finally read them. I read really fast and hate always waiting for the next book in the series that I read, so I was holding off on starting them until the last one was out. At this rate I might not ever end up reading them!

Just so you know - the "last" book is actually going to be a reprint of the first one, with only the names changed. They figure no one is going to remember the first book well enough to catch it. . . .

Just kidding, but I have stopped reading the danged things, and won't bother rereading any of them until I have the entire series sitting on my shelf.

I liked the first book. The second was OK. After that, I got tired of things never going anywhere. Plots seemed to just drop off. It lacked coherency. I was not surprised that he died before finishing. I never thought that he could bring himself to wrap it up. If someone had forced him to make 3-5 book series, I think he and his readers would have been much better off.

I have to agree with you. I lost all interest after the 3rd book for the same reasons you mention. It's been years since I read them but I seem recall that the characters just seemed to be wandering around going somewhere that wasn't all that interesting. *yawn*

I do hope that you Robert Jordan fans have some mega-series closure .

For me, the first five books were all very good... the Fires of Heaven perhaps the best overall, IMHO, and then things got rocky for a while. The last couple of books, through were decent enough.

Bumping this thread.

Book 12, now titled The Gathering Storm, has a release date, of November 3.

Brandon Sanderson reports that he's more than half-way through with Book 13, scheduled for release Fall 2010. There is a tacit promise on the table to release the fourteenth and final volume in Fall 2011.

Where do fans of the series, here, stand with regard to these last three books? Has anyone decided to just give up on the series and not read them at all? Or will you wait for Book 14 and then read the final three? Or will you read each of the books as they're released? Is anyone planning on rereading the entire series? If so, when? Before Book 12? or before Book 14?

I'll probably wait till 13 is out to start rereading.cant read as fast as i could now, and i should have a very short wait if any for 14 to release, dw however will start rereading in the next few weeks and then again next year, and hte next. we both love the series and look forward to completeing it.

I have to agree with you. I made it through 5 books, I think, before I had to stop. It was just way too much detail without any forward motion.
