Quoting From Favorite Children's Books

I always quote Alice in Wonderland when I am confused about something (which happens a lot  )...."Curiouser and curiouser.."

I like that one too. :) There a quite a few from Alice in Wonderland that are great. Here are two others that come to mind for me: "...But I don't want to be among mad people." - Alice. And, "...don't let's be silly!" -Mad Hatter.

I'll love you forever
I'll like you for always
as long as I'm living
My baby you'll be

From: Love you Forever

Because I always know what I am getting and I am always pleased!"

(anyone know where that is from?):)

"Oh I am soooo Embarrased"

If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer. . .
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in! Come in!

- Where the Sidewalk Ends

For finding your mother
There's one certain test
You must look for the creature
Who loves you the best.

~Miss Spider

I can't believe I didn't mention this one. When we adopted DD, this book became a must. She still loves it. The message is a reassuring one, whether your child is adopted or yours biologically. But for adopted children, it helps reinforce the feeling of belonging, so that when they come up against the dreaded "real parents" comments, they'll be more likely to let them roll off their backs. The "one who loves you the best" IS your real parent.

This isn't really a quote. The Velveteen Rabbit was my sister's favorite book as a kid and now whenever we see something that is worn and truly loved by it's owner we always come to the conclusion that it is now "real". All our old toys and stuffed animals are real, of course.

I say that one a lot too! "MUSTARD! Don't let's be silly!"

Thank you for posting this,
my DD loved this book...
I think I need to go buy these while I still remember so I can have them to read to future grandchildren:)

When DD14 was little I used to recite 2 of her favorite books to her every night - she used to beg for me to "say the rhymes". We continued the tradition with DD9 and will do so with DS when he is a little older.

This is probably our favorite:

The cow says moo
The sheep says baa
3 singing pigs say laa laa laa
No, no you say that is not right
Pigs say Oink all day and night
(from Moo, Baa, Lalala by Sandra Boynton)

You are very welcome. It shouldn't be too hard to find. I just got a copy of it, for a baby gift, at AC moore. And of course they have it at all the bookstores. I always give it as a baby gift!

oh also when I was a kid we used to quote a poem called something like choosing shoes we would say it whenever we went shoe shoping but I can't quote it anymore I should google it. Google is my freind right?

ah that was too easy here it is let me have a fast childhood flashback

Choosing Shoes
by Frida Wolfe

New shoes, new shoes,
Red and pink and blue shoes.
Tell me, what would you choose,
If they'd let us buy?

Buckle shoes, bow shoes,
Pretty pointy-toe shoes,
Strappy, cappy low shoes;
Let's have some to try.

Bright shoes, white shoes,
Dandy-dance-by-night shoes,
Perhaps-a-little-tight shoes,
Like some? So would I.

BUT
Flat shoes, fat shoes,
Stump-along-like-that shoes,
Wipe-them-on-the-mat shoes,
That's the sort they'll buy

Ooooh!!! Thanks for sharing that! What a flashback you gave me of me sitting on my dad's lap while he read with drama this poem out of a Childcraft poetry book! {sigh}:cloud9:

Never tease a weasel, not even once or twice.
A weasel will not like it, and teasing isn't nice.
