As a parent, I had to make what was probably one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make in my life and it affected by oldest and only daughter. She's almost 15, a freshman, and there was a non-specific violence threat involving her high school yesterday. We knew about it in advance, and had the opportunity to keep our children home. I chose to send my daughter to school, even knowing how terrified she was. Only 38% of the student population came to school yesterday. I'm proud of her bravery. It was important to me to make her see that we live every day of our lives with the possibility that something could happen and we can't let it control us. This is just something that I really feel strongly about memorializing in her school scrapbook.

So . . . I'm looking for a really good quote and I can't seem to find the quote area on 2Peas anymore . . . .

Any suggestions??
Brenda

p.s. This is the first time this has occurred in our community. Thankfully nothing happened at school yesterday . . . .

This is the most widely quoted quote about fear -

"The only thing we have to fear is fear it'self - nameless, unreasoning, unjustified, terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."
---- FDR - First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1933

Here are some more I found:

Courage is not the lack of fear but the ability to face it."
---- Lt. John B. Putnam Jr. (1921-1944)

"Fear is a tyrant and a despot, more terrible than the rack, more potent than the snake."
---- Edgar Wallace - The Clue of the Twisted Candle (1916)

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
--- Frank Herbert, Dune - Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear

I like this one:

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear."
-Ambrose Redmoon

This one is good too:

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear”
- Mark Twain

Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.
Dorothy Thompson

Courage is not the absence of fear, it is the conquest of it.

Eddie Rickenbacher
Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared.
