This just made my stomach turn... even more so then usual when hearing about the plans of this group of hate filled lowlifes.

Their leader has already publicly thanked god's "marvelous work in Tucson". Words can't describe my feelings towards these people and what I would wish upon them.

Fred Phelps and his followers will answer to God one day and since God loves all the people Phelps claims God hates, I think Phelps is in for a rude awaking on judgement day. I'm surprised someone hasn't taken him out, actually. His message of hate is clearly wrong and against everything Christianity stands for.

They were scheduled to come here when 4 or 5 children died in a house fire a few years ago. Our law enforcement did something to keep them away. I hope Arizona finds a way too.

I just read an article on Fox that said the people of Arizona are going to show up en masse to block these "people" from the grieving families and there are local bike groups aiding in this. The legislature is fast tracking bill to keep these "people" 300 yards away.

For the life of me, I will NEVER understand these Westboro "people". I understand free speech and all that but I don't understand what they think they are accomplishing

The good news is that the Arizona Legislature is expected to pass legislation banning protesters from getting closer than 300 feet from the service. Also, ordinary citizens are planning to show up arm in arm, with 8x10 angel wings in order to shield the protesters from the victims' families.

I'm still just aghast over this. Showing up at a child's funeral to protest?!?!? I just can't even imagine how a person becomes that twisted and sick.

I know that the counter people mean well but just more people showing up gets the Witchboro people exactly what they want: more attention.

If people would ignore them, they would stop. Let the shock factor be over. When people from this group come out it is usually 2 maybe 3 people. The shocking part is seeing a 10 year old holding up a sign that says something similiar "thank god for another dead soldier."

I've been to these funerals that just turn into a circus and it does nothing one way or the other to help the family.

The reason why he and his followers haven't been taken out is because the majority of us are moral people, and as reprehensible as we find their behavior to be, we don't resort to violence or deplorable behavior. That's what separates us from people like them.

I agree that the counter protests gives them more publicity, but the human side of me would have to step in and do whatever I could to shield the grieving parents from these sickos. I couldn't watch these parents be harassed at their daughter's funeral. And yes, I know the counter protests are probably exactly what they want. There really is no easy solution.

Yes, they just do it for the attention. I think someone (I'd do it, but I'm not sure exactly how to do it) would set up one of those on line petitions requesting that the news organizations stop covering the Westboro Church protests. I understand freedom of the press and all that, but I, as a citizen, would like to give no more attention to this group, and if we let the news groups know that, any time they make a mention of this group that we will boycott their news organization for 24 hours. I bet if you get enough signatures, that would be the end of the press, and hopefully the group (I hate calling them a church) will find something else to do with there spare time.

People in my state formed an angel chain to keep them from getting close to Elizabeth Edwards' funeral. There were thousands of people there to keep the Westboro people out.

Some of the signs were so disgusting, like "Thank God for breast cancer!" I don't quite understand how anyone can be that hateful, knowing her young kids would be hurt by that. I hate that they call themselves Christians, b/c there is no way they are going anywhere but down.

Westboro says they are picketing her funeral because her family is Catholic. And God hates Catholics.

I wish they'd drink the kool-aid already and get it over with.

I'm just surprised that clan is allowed to keep poisoning their own children!

Back in 2008, two children were removed from their home in Manitoba, Canada primarily because their parents were NeoNazis. The prosecutors argued that that raising kids in an atmosphere of hate is child abuse. This past December an appeal in the case was refused, and the kids remain in provincial care.

I would think social services could keep them so busy, they wouldn't have any time to go around picketing funerals.
