We didn't take out cruise insurance for our cruise on May 15th. And I was wondering if it is too late to take it out just for medical insurance. We weren't worried about canceling because we are using DVC points and our insurance told us at first that we were covered and now we have found out that it doesn't. Is it too late? And which company is best to go through?

I believe you have to purchase the insurance before your final payment is made..or you have so many days after you make your deposit to purchase insurance. Check with your TA or DCL.

I didn't purchase the cruise insurance ether at booking. Just a few days ago decided that it would be a good idea, so I called Disney Cruise Line and they said that I could not get what they offered because I have already made final payment. So I posted here and looked on the net for it. I found this Company (www.travelguard.com) everyone here had good things to say about them. So I purchased their Insurance $84 for two people 3-day cruise. They said it would take about two weeks to get my paperwork. I called their 800 number instead of doing on-line purchase.

also, you may want to ask about pre-existing conditions, as i think when you do not buy within so many days of your deposit, things that are considered a pre-exisiting condition are not covered. Be sure to ask.

It is not too late!!

In addition to Travel Guard, which is an excellent company, Travel Insured also has insurance available.

Travel Insured has plans for those who have already departed, and you are well within range to get the regular version, I think.

Since you didn't purchase within 10 days of your deposit, you will not get pre-existing condition protection, terrorism protection or bankruptcy protection. You will, however, get the rest of the whole schebang!! :D

I would recommend a 3rd party insurer, anyway, and I plan to use Travel Insured (already paid for) on my trip.

Thanks for all the help. I bought Last Minute travel insurance through Access America. I guess that they do the insurance for DCL. Travel Guard wanted $138 for the four of us for the exact same coverage that I got at Access America for only $83.00. Has anyone purchased through Access America directly? We really only needed the medical coverage and baggage lost so it worked out well for us. Thanks again!

There are many private companies that do travel insurance--most much cheaper than coverage thru DCL. Some large travel agencies have their own companies. Several were listed above. You might do a web search if you need more!

We used acces america and purchased directly through them and they were great.

we got a 7 nt cruise covered for $167 for four which DCL quoted us 399. AcAm also covered our separately booked airfare for no extra charge.

they were a pleasure to work with, and I figure if DCL uses them they must be reputable.
