Ok here is my situation. DW's family is all out west. Just got rediculously cheap airfare to Vegas. $21 OW per person, plus taxes on alliegent air OKC-LAS. So I need to know from DL experts if this is doable. We want to spend a day in Vegas then drive either over night or early next morning to DL. I am guestimating 5-6 hours due to traffic at tail end. Pretty much in line with what my father in law said. Looking at about three days in LA. One day at DL, one at beach and family. Might get a second day for CA or a family day. Who knows at this point.

Basic questions are is it possible hit highlights for both parks in one day, and not feel you have missed anything. Also what are must sees for DS6 and DD4. Does this sound doable. Normally I would go for two park days, but the unknown is the family portion.

We have done a WDW trip, so they kinda know what to expect from Disney.

Nice thing is the Disney portion of our trip is a surprise.

Dates of trip are June 11-16 with 13, 14, 15 in California
Thanks

Wow...very aggressive schedule! Having only been there once (alone, not with the family), I think it *can* be done, but there are a lot of variables. Its summer, its most likely crowded, you'd have to be there from the very start to the very end, and most important, your kids have to cooperate 150%. They're very young in age and I think that this is going to be your biggest challenge; keeping them rested enough so that they don't have a melt down. Strollers will be a must for both. I'd opt for two days, family plans permitting, so that you can see enough highlights and so that you keep your sanity. Besides, can you even get a one day hopper? I thought you can only get a one park pass...maybe I'm wrong. Good luck!

I know two parks in one day sounds aggressive, I just know that DS wants to do monsters inc, otherwise it would be DL only. (plus I am thinking of Tower of Terror).

Like I said, the unknown is the rest of the family. We'll see the grandparents since they live in Vegas, it is the extended family that is the variable.

Plus I hate going commando through the parks. It is no fun for anyone.

On a side note, what are the historical hours for the parks in the summer?

Historically, park hours for summer are 8am to midnight, so you have that going for you. Be at DL at least 15 minutes before park opening. Go straight to Fantasyland and ride Peter Pan and Dumbo (you just don't want to deal with the lines for those later). Matterhorn is another good one to ride early. The other Fantasyland rides don't get as long of lines and/or load faster.
