Members since 2001 and it was my first visit to our home resort. Lucked out and snagged a studio for a Friday and Saturday in August when I looked in June.
Left Suffern NY about 9 on Thursday, arrived in Fayetville NC about 6:30. Hampton Inn was nice and new, dinner at a buffet was meh but cheap. The drive the next day seemed to take forever but we arrived just after 4 pm.
Studio in the main building with a marsh/condo view. I really felt the room was quite beat up and didn't compare the the Hampton Inn from the night before. Chipped paint on the doors, saggy couch cushions, just looked dated and old to me (other than the kitchenette which looked new). Beds, including the sofa bed were comfy. Resort is small and very compact - they made great use of the little island where the resort is ... no wasted space!
Ate at Skull Creek Dockside on our way to the resort - food was great (get the shrimp and calamari appetizer). Dinner for two nights was Scott's, food was above average, nothing remarkable but it was just so convenient to walk there in under 5 minutes and the live music was a plus.
DO NOT MISS Hilton Head Social bakery located next door to Scott's. Head over there for breakfast or a snack. Seriously, DO NOT MISS it.
Did a 2 hour kayak with Outisde Hilton Head. The resort needs at least 24 hours notice to put together a trip so I booked with Outside from my phone at 8 am for a 10 am trip. Had a dolphin pop up less than 10 yards from my kayak! Guide as nice and it was interesting to learn about the marsh.
Took the shuttle to the beach house which was pretty packed for lunch and a beach afternoon. Paid $28 for an umbrella and 3 chairs since it was just after 1 pm. Stayed at the beach til 5 when we went up to the now empty pool. Bar was open til 7 I think so we had a couple of drinks and enjoyed the lack of people! Called the Dune Buggy for a ride back, waited about 20 minutes for it to arrive and we felt awful that we didn't have any cash to tip the driver.
Headed back in May but in a 2-bedroom with DH and "kids" (20 and 30). I booked for 8 nights but will probably drop that to 5 and stay in Savannah or Charleston too. I'll have to plan out what some activities in advance to really see how much time we could spend there. It's a lovely area - would love to retire there but need that scratch off lottery ticket to happen first!
