Planning a Holiday Gathering and looking for quick/simple hor' deourves recipes. Thanks and Happy Holidays !

OK these sound gross but they are actually super yummy.

Take some cooked bacon and chop it up, mix with shredded cheddar and enough mayo to make it stick together. Place some on top of crackers and cook in the oven long enough to melt the cheese.

I typically use pre chopped bacon from the grocery store salad bar, Ritz crackers and bake at 350 for 8-10 mins (or my toaster oven for 5), I've used many types of crackers though and it's yummy no matter what.

put a block of cream cheese on a plate-top with a jar of red hot pepper jelly-serve with crackers and celery sticks-yummmmmm

I first tried these at Costco and got hooked. Making my own was super simple and they were a big hit!

1 tube crescent dough
1 pkg Boursin cheese

Unroll crescent dough and separate into 2 large rectanges. Spread 1/2 of the Boursin cheese on each rectangle. Roll each rectangle up like a jelly roll (use the long side so the finished roll is longer rather than thicker).

Using kitchen shears, snip each roll into 9-10 pieces. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake according to the directions on the crescent roll dough.

If you're feeling ambitious, you can add chopped cooked chicken, bacon bits, or well-drained chopped spinach, but they're quite good just as they are.

Shrimp!!!
Buffalo chicken dip
Baked Brie (our store's cheese shop has it ready to heat)

One thing my mom's friend did every year for a Christmas party was Cream Cheese roll-ups, two versions:

Chop up some pickled jalapeno slices, mix with cream cheese, smear generously onto flour tortilla, roll-up, then slice into rounds.

Smear cream cheese on a flour tortilla, cover with ham or salami lunch meat, roll up and slice into rounds.

I've also seen a version where people mix the cream cheese with some crushed drained pineapple, then roll in tortilla with ham (though I'm not fond, DH loved it)

Personally, I found these to be delish and very simple to make, but not necessarily cheap:

french bread round, smeared with goat cheese, fold a basil leaf with a slice of good italian salami (or version thereof) and lay on top, then top that with half a cherry tomato (or thin slice of small seeded roma tomato) -- pin together with toothpick if needed. Crack some pepper on the top of it all.

I like cream cheese with the hot pepper jelly over it, I also like cream cheese with salsa over the top, both very good! Pigs in blankets are easy. We just did something fun with crescent rolls, we put chocolate chips in the middle, rolled them up and cooked them as usual, we got choc crescent rolls. YUM!

1/2 pkg dry italian dressing seasoning to 1 brick of cream cheese. Combine, cover and let sit in fridge for a while for best taste. Spread cream cheese mix onto cocktail breads, top with peeled and sliced cucmbes and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate until ready to enjoy!

Sausage and Cheese Stuffed Wontons

Makes a ton which is great for a large party.

Get the little wonton wrappers (usually in the produce aisle). Bake them in muffin tins.

Then cook:

1 lb sweet italian sausage cooked and crumbled.
Mix with:
1 cup shredded cheddar
1 cup shredded monterey jack
1/2 cup chopped black olives
1 small jar(8 oz) of ranch dressing.

Can make all of this ahead of time and then stuff and reheat right before you serve them.
If you bake the wontons a day or two ahead, just let them cool and seal in a ziploc. Can make the stuffing ahead too.

I've also used this stuffing in mushrooms for stuffed mushrooms.

You can use either turkey or ham lunch meat for this. Take a slice of lunch meat, spread cream cheese over one end of it and place a green onion/scallion across the cream cheese. Roll the piece of lunch meat. Slice each roll into bite size pieces and place a tooth pick in each piece...done! Place them on a tray/plate for serving.

Here's another easy recipe:

Get a loaf of that little tea sandwich bread, lay each piece out on a cookie sheet. Brush each slice with olive oil, place a piece of cheese the size of the bread (usually one piece of cheese will cover four slices of this tiny bread). I like to use Meunster cheese, then place a few olives, black or green (you choose) on each piece. Just before you are ready to serve them, place them under the broiler to melt and brown the cheese. That's it, they're ready to serve.

Bacon-wrapped dates - wrap 1/2 slice bacon around date, fasten with toothpick, sautee on stovetop until bacon is cooked through.

Have fun with your party - I love making hors d'oeuvres! :goodvibes

Warm your favorite chili and spread over flour tortillas. I use the biggest ones I can find (I think they are for burritos). Add some shredded cheddar cheese. Crush up some Frito corn chips and add to chili and cheese. Roll up and cut into 3 or 4 pieces (depending on the size you buy) or layer tortillas together like a quesadilla and cut into triangles. Serve with sour cream. You can also microwave them for just a few seconds to make the cheese melt faster.

Quick and easy taco dip. Spread some refried beans on a plate. Add on top sour cream mixed with a packet of taco seasoning. Sprinkle on shredded cheddar cheese.

Ok, and this one is the only thing I think is a very big family tradition that no one else will eat. But we have it for most holidays and major get togethers. 1 8 ounce package Oscar Mayer braunschweiger, 1 brick softened cream cheese, 1/2 small yellow onion finely minced, 1 tsp worchestershire sauce, and 3 tbs sour cream. Mix ingredients and chill. Serve with rye bread or crackers. You can also mold it by placing plastic wrap in a dish and adding the dip. When ready to serve remove from dish and uncover. I've seen it covered in sliced green olives, but I don't care for it that way.

We serve liverwurst with Ritz crackers, sliced hard-boiled eggs, and sliced pickles. Sooo good!

I have had great success with the following dip. I always get asked for the recipe. It's from Cooking Light. I usually just serve with crackers when I brink the dip to anothers home. I use the Crostini when served in my home.

Asiago Dip with Crostini

1 cup light mayonnaise
1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions
1/3 cup (about 1 1/2 ounces) grated Asiago or Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup sliced mushrooms
1/4 cup sun-dried tomato sprinkles
1 (8-ounce) carton low-fat sour cream
1 tablespoon (1/4 ounce) grated Asiago or Parmesan cheese
32 (1/2-inch-thick) slices diagonally cut French bread baguette, toasted (about 2 baguettes)

Preheat oven to 350°.

Combine first 6 ingredients in a bowl; spoon into a 1-quart casserole. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon cheese. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until bubbly. Serve with toasted bread.

Yield: 2 cups (serving size: 1 tablespoon dip and 1 crostino)

I saw this one on Sandra Lee yesterday. She made mini corn bread muffins, then made a tiny well in the middle of each one that she filled with a bit of chili. She sprinkled on a couple pieces of shredded cheese on top. They were so cute, and very inexpensive!

Favorites around here are Little Smokies and also Brown Sugar Baked Bacon.

Dh makes the Little Smokies in a sauce of KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce, brown sugar and whiskey in a crockpot - super easy and yummy.

Everyone always loves the Brown Sugar Baked Bacon. I cut the bacon slices in half so they are shorter. Place the slices on parchment paper in a baking pan with sides (so any grease doesn't run off) - put the parchment paper on a rack in the pan if you have a rack - sprinkle with brown sugar and bake at 350° until bacon is crisp and browned - usually about half an hour. Totally unhealthy but oh so good.

We also do the tortilla roll-ups with veggies. Mix a brick of cream cheese, 1/3 cup of mayo and a tablespoon of dry ranch mix. Spread on large flour tortillas. Top with chopped veggies and shredded cheese - I use shredded carrots, mushrooms, green onions, broccoli, fresh spinach and red or yellow peppers and finely shredded cheddar cheese. Roll them up, chill and then slice.

Sweet and sour meatballs

Crock pot
One bag of small meatballs
Equal parts jelly and ketchup

Put on low all day.

My husband would happily live on these forever! :goodvibes
