Quick Service Seating Changes

I like it, hope it works out. I understand what a pain it will be for people with kids though. Does the entire family have to stand in line or would it be possible and better if one family member orders and everyone else stands to the side? But then you'll have people just standing in bunches all over anyway. On second thought, it probably isn't going to work after all.

Sounds GREAT to me!!! No more fighting for a seat!!!!!

I think this always gets divided into 2 camps. Those who don't have someone with them to hold a table and those who do. Those who do have table holders don't want to give up the advantage they have and those who don't have table holders just want to be able to eat without the hassle of trying to find a table.

Glad I got Free DDP so we only have to deal with that for 1 meal a day. My kids are 3 and 4.5. I'm not sure my 3 year old will be safe on a stool and she hasn't sat in a high chair in over a year.

Generally, when we are at places like QS at home, I'll sit with the kids and get them situated while DH gets the food. Seems like a dumb idea to me in an amusement park filled with young kids.

wonder how many times my kids will fall off the stools...

I am fine with the not saving the tables just not the change to the stools

I have no problem with more organized seating if it helps get more people tables.

I do have a serious problem with no chair backs. I can't sit on stools for more than a couple of minutes because of a back problem. I have to have a chair back or will be in a lot of pain. If WDW does away with all chair backs I suppose we will have to stop going to WDW or I'll have to sit in a wheel chair all day even though I don't need a wheel chair to get around, I just can't sit on a stool? Brilliant.

I have a small one and a backpack full of supplies to deal with them so I am on the side of not liking. Did come up against this a couple of years ago at Cosmic Rays and we just went elsewhere. My wife was not in the mood to deal with it. The lines at the pickup counters are usually a little difficult to negotiate with a tray without everyones entire party being in line.

However, with older children, or without any it could be beneficial. You will still have the increased crowd at the counters.

And with no disrespect to anyone on the boards, but when if you are older, or have had a surgery or two or have been beat up in an accident or two, the chair backs take on a whole new meaning. There is no way my mother - in -law could go without a chairback for a significant amount of time.

OK, I know this has been run through the washer before, but I just read in the Orlando paper where seating at CS restaurants is being limited to to those who have their food. A way for D to make bigger profits. Hey, as a stockholder I love profit.

BUT AS A PARENT ARE YOU KIDDING ME? CS restaurants are already on the low end of the food service chain. So limiting seating until you have your grub is crazy. Where shall the children stand? When will mother take them potty and where do I set my food while I clean the table (germs!) because they don't!

THIS IS STUPID. IT GOES AGAINST FAMILIES WITH KIDS AND OLDER FOLKS. Hey, everyone needs a break, sun, heat, you know. It's not just a choke and puke and go. It is a resting place for those who paid the price just to get in.

Too far over the edge!

I think it's great. No more hovering around the perimeters of Pecos Bills' waiting for that ever elusive table to open up - it was always like playing musical chairs when it was busy in there.

And restaurant seating is not intended just for those who "paid to get in [the parks]" which is what it sounds like you are saying. It's a restaurant. Seating is for those who are eating there.

And they do say they will only be doing that when crowds warrant it.

If the rest of your party has to go to the restroom, then that's what they can do when someone is ordering the food - not sure what having a table has to do with that part?

I'm someone who usually sends the kids to the table while the adults get the food, butI don't understand your hostility.

I'm not sure how keeping the tables for people who already have food will make Disney more money than having people sitting at tables who do not have food. They are all eating anyway, right? The tables at the counter service restaurants are not intended to be resting places for people who are not eating. There are plenty of places to sit at in the parks if you need to take a break, not to mention plenty of attractions that you can rest in too.

As far as the cleaning of the table goes, well, you have your food on a tray. You wipe down the part of the table that the tray is not on, and then you move the tray and clean the rest of the table.

I love the part that mentions that they want to make it more profitable for the resort.

Does this mean they will lower their prices? :lmao:

I know that at least at Pecos Bills they have had stools for a while.

As far as needing a back on your seat goes, you can always wait for a table to open up next to a wall or column. Not ideal, I know, but if having something at your back is a must, that could be an option for you.

As far as having the kids in line, unless you are a single parent you still don't need to have the kids in line. One parent can stand off to the side, and the other can place the order.

Don't forget the whole no saved tables is only going to happen during peak park times, so it is not alway going to be happening. It must be that during peak periods more people are saving tables than people are actually eating at the tables. It is hugely frustrating to be carrying trays off food around, with children in tow, looking for an empty table.

Right on WDW-BWV. I don't just sit at a table and relax but I will be the "food runner" while everyone else sits at the table and waits. Can you imagine what the food lines would be like if every family member stood there. I think that it is fine if the family sits at a table waiting for the other family member to bring food back. It just makes life easier!

As for this being able to turn over tables a lot faster, how is it going to work? Are Cast Members going to be walking around and if a family is sitting there and hasn't touched their food in 2 minutes will they be asked to leave?

I don't think anyone would be asking you to leave once you're seated. But it will allow more people to be seated. For example, if there's a family sitting at a table waiting for someone to bring their food from the counter, they could potentially be sitting there for what - 20 minutes or longer - when it's crowded? In that same 20 minute time frame, another family could be seated there, eat their meal and be done. So it's less time where the tables aren't being used for actual eating, KWIM?

(I have to say I'm not crazy about the stool thing though).

neither could my DH w/his back problems. He also, FWIW, could not stand in line w/me if we were to eat at a place that was too small/crowded to bring the ECV in. He would park his ECV, walk to a table w/his cane, and sit and wait for me to bring the food. No way he is going to be able to stay with me in line for the food and then for a table.

Should I tie him up outside like a puppy and then go get him after I have my food?

I have kids and don't see a problem??? Everyone stands in line and gets their food, then sits down. If you need the potty go before you get in line or after you get your food. No need to sanatize the table unless you are eating off it which I would never allow a child to do anyway. In fact I prefer it ths way b/c I no longer need to worry about wether I will have a table when I get my food. I don't see how it goes against families unless your kid has some kind of disability that prevents them standing in line with you. In that case I would think they would make an exception. The only potential porblem I see is a single parent with a child too small to stand in line, but you are kind of stuck there anyway as you can't leave the kid alone at a table.

It's about time they stopped people from hogging tables when others with trays of food cannot find anywhere to sit down. As the mom of three kids, I'm thrilled that we can go to a CS place and actually be able to find a place to sit without having our food get cold!

"Clark said the results have been overwhelmingly positive, both in terms of praise from guests who report a more-relaxed dining experience and in terms of reducing congestion inside the restaurants, where, like on a busy highway, small backups can cascade over the course of a day into lengthier delays."

:cool1:

Way to go Disney! This is awesome. Sounds like I'll be able to actually enjoy my lunch now instead of worrying about not having a table!

I am another that sends DH and Dd to get a table and I wait for the food....So now we will all wait and everyone around us can deal with 2 extra people just standing there taking up space.:thumbsup2

Combined the two threads about the Counter Service seating policy. :goodvibes

As opposed to you taking up a table - that's the point.
