Quick serve salads...dressing question.

When looking at quick serve menus online, so many places offer caesar salads. Is that caesar dressing in a pouch or container on the side, or already applied to the salad? And is the caesar dressing the only dressing available if it is on the side?

Thanks!

I only had one QS Caesar salad at WDW. It was at Catalina Eddie's in HS and think the dressing came from a side pouch which I dinna use since I prefer lemon slices or oil and vinegar over commercially made dressings.

I don't often do QS but I believe all the salads there have Ken's packet dressings.

Thank you! The caesar dressing has anchovies, so it's a no-go for the vegetarians in the family, but we're not fans of salads with absolutely no dressing either, so I'm just trying to see if we can still make a go of these very prevalent salads by substituting another dressing, or if they'll have only the caesar packets and nothing else. :)

If they offer another salad on the menu you will be able to sub. If they only have caesar salads on the menu they will most likely not have another dressing on hand.

I would ask for dressing on the side--see if that is possible. Most of the salads I've had at WDW have been pre-dressed lately. I prefer the days when you went and got your own dressing from the condiments area.

Most places I’ve gotten salads at have been pre-dressed (and when I worked at The Mara a million years ago we dressed the salads) but I don’t think it would be any problem to have the dressing on the side/sub for something else

I'd be surprised if QS restaurants are using anything but commercial dressings, and commercial "creamy" type Caesar dressings almost never contain anchovies.

Just ask at the restaurant and they'll be able to tell you if the dressing they are using contains them or not.

Unfortunately if it is Ken's regular caesar dressing then it will have anchovies, but I will definitely ask because I do like caesar dressing when I can find it anchovy free. :)

Thanks, everyone! I would like to try to pre-order some of our counter service items, but it seems that in cases like this, I will have to get in line to ask questions first. :)

I like getting salad, and will say it does seem to be a mix of pre-dressed and on the side. I think it depends on the type of salads at their location and how they are made. I feel like if there are any food issues, you have to order in person to insure you get a fresh undressed salad.

The only QS I ever ordered a Caesar salad was at Pizza Planet and it did come pre-dressed.

And each time I have gotten there (including in April) they were pre-dressed :confused3 so I'm not sure we can ever know for sure at a QS.

I would not pre-order if I had any food restrictions. And honestly with so many using it now with it an option for dining plan, it's not quite as efficient as it was. We loved it at first, not so much now.

Thanks so much, everyone. Vegetarian eating isn't the only dietary difficulty in our group, so I have a feeling we'll be asking a lot of questions. :)

A lot of the quick serve places have the dressing mixed in the salad when it's served.
I always get the salad with the broccoli and chicken at Columbia Harbor House, and that has always been pre-mixed.
I think the Mediterranean Salad at ABC Commissary and the salad I got at Pizza Rizzo also had the salad dressing mixed in with it as well, but I can't remember for sure.

The bottom line: just ask. Even if the dressing is already mixed on the salad, you may be able to get them to make up one without it for you if that is your preference.

If I am in the mood for a particular dressing, I carry it with me. You can buy the pouches of dressings. They don't require refrigeration.

I never thought of that. Thank you. I'm planning on having grocery items sent to our room, so I will look for the dressing pouches. I did think of single serve hummus, but that is refrigerated, and yet buying my own dressing pouches never occured to me, LOL! :)

Amazon sells good variety, fairly reasonable.

I just bought the individual hummus for a trip, they were perfect.

I've bought them through Amazon and through Minimus.

I had never heard of Minimus .......... and then I googled it ............... OH MY! I love anything mini!!

This might be a problem. :D I am scrolling through and losing my mind.
