My son is in K and they have a classroom teddy bear that each kid gets to bring home after school one day. He's supposed to bring the bear with him everywhere he goes and then write about it and draw a picture. Well, we sort of forgot and he stayed in the bag all night. What should I write in the journal? Should I make something up? Should I say "sorry we forgot"? Should I just leave the page blank? :confused3

I would just write about what you did last night even if the bear wasn't there. It happens.

I would write in the journal what you guys did during the week, even if the teddy bear wasn't with you at the time. My son's pre-K class did the same thing and I remember not bringing the stuffed animal (I think there's was a dog?) with us to much stuff, just because we'd forget about it or was worried that we'd lose the stuffed animal. It spent most of the week in DS' bed.

There will be a wide variety of entries in the journal by the end of the year -- ranging from simple paragraphs of what they did that week to elaborate, artistic collages of pictures of the child and the bear. Don't worry, though, it's not graded. :teeth:

Oh of course. There's only one entry in right now and it's a whole page long filled with wholesome educational activities (no video games :rotfl: ).

do it from the bear's perspective-'i was kind of scared being in a new and unfamiliar place so i stayed cuddled up in my cave all night-but the things i heard, and the things i saw when i was brave enough to peek out!!!'. then describe the things he could have heard/smelled (how happy dd was to find out x was for dinner and how good it smelled, how much the family laughed when such and such told a joke), what he might have peaked and saw (i saw x helping mom put away the dishes, how well x shared with her brother...).

that way it will be the truth so your dd does'nt get confused as to what to do when she forgets to do part of an assignment.

btw-we got 'stuck' with the preschool mascot 'lambert the lamb' the week we went to disneyland. all my family photos have that silly little lamb peaking out of someone's pocket!

I am sure they are all true, too???? That parent can win parent of the year because they did good things with a stuffed animal. Since the perfect parent in your kid's class already had the bear, put down that you left the bear at home when you ran errands or what ever. Every other parent in the class will thank you. :rotfl2:

Last year, we got the animal much later in the year, so we had the benefit of seeing months worth of entries. There were a couple that my wife and I had to :rotfl2: :rotfl2: about, because there was no way that they could have possibly done all those things AND gone to school AND had the time to create this elaborate page in the journal. :rotfl2:

Just write the bear was not behaving like a bear should and was put in time out for the night.;)

I've worked with 5 year olds. The truth will come out. ;) The teacher will read this elaborate thing the bear supposedly did and then the kid will say "He stayed in my backpack all night." Or "We forgot." :rotfl:
I agree with what barkley said. Admit that you forgot but do it in a way so that the bear can say what he "heard and felt." :thumbsup2

I would send an e-mail or note to the teacher saying that you both forgot about the bear. I would then ask if you can do the activity tonight.

..but the bear didn't do anything wrong? :confused3 :lmao: Hee hee, the bear is not even "real." lol

I like the idea of personifying him like barkley suggested and telling the bear's perspective.

You guys are cracking me up! :rotfl: Well, I like the persepective from the bear hiding in his cave, but I had already written it. We missed the bus this morning getting this thing done. I talked to my son and we decided to just write what we did saying everything as "we" instead of "I". I'm not sure they even talk about it in school. So hopefully he won't get "caught". :teeth:

I remember DS#2 bringing home the class' stuffed bear in pre-k. The bear spent a weekend with your family. DS' turn was late in the year. DH and I flipped through the journal and found that one family had taken the bear to London and another family had taken the bear to Italy (both families have family in those countries) for their weekends! DH and I just laughed. There was no way we were going to do a spontaneous weekend in Europe, and certainly not for a stuffed bear. We asked DS where he wanted to take the bear, and he replied "Chuck E Cheese". While I would have preferred a weekend in Europe to CeC, DS was thrilled to go to CeC. Of course, on Monday, when the teacher read the bear's journal, DS' classmates were all envious that DS got to go to CeC.
