Quick review of package

I wonder if a solution would be booking restaurant reservations with the package to secure the reservations, and then using the one hour regular reservation window to try re-book the same restaurants, and if successful modifying the package to drop the restaurants.
Your vacation package is finalized two weeks out so any cancellations would need to be done before that date. You are not only securing the reservation with the package but paying for the most expensive meal on the menu, usually referred to as the special set if it’s not a buffet.
Any of the restaurants secured through the regular reservation system you pay when you dine there or in the case of a show restaurant when you book it.
I wish I could get the earlier time but then we'd have to pay for breakfast, whereas with the package it's free
It’s not free with the package if you got rid of the restaurant reservations the package the price would go down. I switched from having the snuggly duckling restaurant as one of my package choices to the Columbia restaurant and the cost of my package went up 60,000 yen.

I think breakfast maybe has to stay in there? I can't see a way to remove it! The only button next to it is "Make Change," and through that I can only change the time, it seems.

Breakfast is the one you can’t get rid of I think because it is included in all the packages. We had the and more package which included lunch or dinner reservations each day too. The early times were all taken for our package too so our breakfast times were 7:50 and 8:10 and it really wasn’t a big problem at ocean at Miracosta. Because it’s a buffet we would eat right away and be done in 15 minutes as we aren’t ones to linger and keep making trips to the buffet. You don’t have a bill to pay since you hand in the ticket from the vacation packet, so when you are done you can just walk out and head right to the park. We caught the last few minutes of early entry each day which made it easy to get into the park with no line and before everyone else was let in. Everyone in my family was happy for the extra hour of sleep.

Good to know! The parks open at 9 when we're there so I was thinking 7:50 might be fine. I might even move the other days to later than 6:30. Especially on the days we're going to DisneySea from MC

It feels to me as part of this was the package and the other part may have been some culture shock. I think in the US choice and flexibility are very important to most consumers and are widely offered. Japan is very different and it is expected that a guest has come to experience the offerings of the host. While I think some accommodations are available please don’t expect an equal experience. It is more about giving you something while your party enjoys their experience. In fact in Japan it can even be rude to order tea when everyone else in your party ordered coffee.

I am not promoting one culture over the other but I would recommend reviewing the food options in detail before choosing an eatery in Japan rather than expecting the restaurant to provide equal accommodations.
