What is the carry-on space like in a CRJ700? Do smaller roller bags fit overhead? How about a small tote underneath the seat?

Going on my first ever business trip in a few hours, and I'm a bit nervous.:scared: Trying to figure out if I should pack for the first meeting (tomorrow) in my carry-on, and if so, if it will fit on the aircraft.

Update: So I went the safe route and checked a bag and carried on a small tote. My boss told me ahead of time to check a bag, but I was trying to avoid it. Showed up at the airport, and everyone else had packed only carry-ons. But they all had to be gate checked. So I'm glad I went the tote bag route.

The Bombardier CRJ-700 is a narrow aircraft with limited space in the overhead compartments and under the seat in front of you.

If you have a typical 20" or 22" rolling bag (the kind that fits perfectly in the overhead compartments of 737 or A320 aircraft), it will NOT fit in the overhead compartment of a CRJ-700. Coats and much smaller items will fit.

The airline should allow you to take your rolling carry-on bag to the gate and "valet check" it there (no charge). It will normally be returned to you at your arrival gate.

Check with your airline.

Yes, it won't fit in the overheads. At the gate, go to the gate agent and get a gate check tag and attach to your bag. Leave your bag at the door of the plane with the other luggage. Your bag will be loaded on the plane and you pick it up outside the door as you leave the plane (may be a short wait).
