Quick question on use year

I have Oct use year and still in 2021 year until a couple weeks. I still have 46 points for my 2022 points. I want to book a Feb 2023 vacation. When I go to book, it will use the 46 points first and then it says it will borrow the rest from 2023.

My question is, if I borrow the points now will be 2022 points? I am trying to determine if I have to cancel or move the Feb vacation what happens to the points? Will they be returned to the 2023 use year? If I wait and book the Feb vacation in Oct (start my use year) does that change anything?

The points you borrow from 2023 UY to make your February reservation, become 2022 UY. They cannot be “unborrowed” or “banked”. You must use them in the 2022 UY or they expire.

Borrowing is always a one way transaction. Once done it cannot be undone. Makes no difference when the reservation is made.

Thanks for the reply. So if I borrowed 2023 points to my 2022 use year I would have until Oct 2022 - Sept 2023 to use these points with an Oct use year? I am getting confused because the trip is in 2023 but I would still be in my 2022 use year.

Yes,if you borrow October 2023 points to book your February 2023 trip, you’ll have until September 30, 2023 to use them because they will be 2022 points.

The easiest way for me is to always forget about then calendar year when figuring out the points and use,

I figure out the UY of trip first and go from there. Since a Feb 2023 UY falls in your Oct 2022 UY, then that is what matters!

You can book it with banked 2021 points (if you had them), 2022 points and borrow 2023 points to complete the trip.

If you cancel more than 31 days out, the points go back into your account as they were used in the trip.

So, borrowed points remain borrowed and can be used until the end of the 2022 UY..which is September 30th, 2023.
