I am having baby furniture delievered today. It's a crib and a dresser/changing table combo. The delivery is $80 and then the charge to set it up is $40. The dresser/changer combo comes already assembled so they just take it out of the box. The crib is the only thing they need to really assemble and it's a stationary crib so it's four sides and then the bottom.

Do I tip these guys? DH says No but I am not sure ....

They charge a set up fee in addition to a delivery fee? I don't think I've had to pay for both. Because there is a set up fee I wouldn't tip or I'd tip very little. Congrats on the upcoming baby!!:cool1:

I'd say no too. But when I had some furniture delivered and they set it up. I had the tip ready just in case. But they left quickly when they were done.

I wouldn't think so if they are charging you, but my DH tips everyone.:confused3

They are already charging you so I would say no, too.

At the most you could offer them something to drink when they are done, like a chilled bottle of water or something.

(Congrats!!)

I never tip any delivery person except the pizza kid.

Thanks. I'll have some chilled bottled water in the fridge ready for them. I thought $40 was crazy for set up when I enjoy building this type of stuff myself. However when we were buying it we thought it was the dresser that would be assembled too. My mom and DH convinced me that I would not want to be crawling around the floor with my belly. So I agreed to have it set up. Then I find out that the dresser comes assembled already so it was just the four sided crib they would assemble...The woman's exact words were "For a dresser that expensive, it better not have to be built." now that I could handle even 8+ months pregnant!!! Too late now!!

I agree with the other posters. My husband used to deliver office furniture and the majority of people did not tip and he didn't expect to be tipped. The occasions when he did get tipped was when the customer would ask him to carry something upstairs or downstairs or on a few occasions to assemble somthing. Really it's up to you and if you feel they did a great job and deserve it. Remember the men delivering will probably only receive their hourly rate and not the fee you are paying to assemble the crib. Just keep that in mind as well.

I would tip....alot of delivery people work for very little and they count on tips. Now if they do a terrible job that is different.

We always tip the delivery men. We paid the company for the delivery not the men. We usually give them $20 (two men) so they can have lunch on us.
