You know those really large squirt guns - that are about 3/4's of the length of your arm? I need to purchase one as a gift for someone and really don't know much about them.. I'm sure that some are junkier than others so I would prefer to spend my money on the best one I can get..

If you have purchased one for one of your children (or someone else) that you and/or he/she has been happy with, could you please tell me where - the approximate cost - and perhaps the exact name of the one that you bought?

And if there are certain ones that I should definitely avoid, could you share that info as well?

I have to run for now, but I'll pop back on to the boards when I have the time to see if there have been any replies..

Thanks! :goodvibes

Our boys have a couple that are called Super Soakers, but I don't remember how much they were or what type they are. I'm sure they came from Walmart/Kmart.

Yes, it's the Super Soakers that you want. They come in different models and sizes. I don't buy any other brand.
It's been a few years since I bought one, so can't tell you a model or price, but if it's a Super Soaker, you can't go wrong!

All the kids in the neighborhood have Super Soakers. No particular model but that brand is popular and they seem to love them. Some of the adults too. We have the mini ones only cause our son's arms are not long enough and he got frusterated with the large ones, soon enough he'll be using the big ones.

Fun gift. I see them on sale at Target all the time. Also TRU has a coupon online - If you like them on Facebook you'll get a 20% off coupon. I'm sure they have them too but not positive

Looks like "Super Soakers" it is...

Love the BB for info like this..:thumbsup2

And thanks so much for taking the time to reply! :goodvibes

My dses are Nerf freaks! They have a bunch of Super Soakers and they both want the Super Soaker Tornado Strike this year. It uses batteries and has "clips" that you fill with water. It sounds pretty cool :thumbsup2

We have the Tornado Strike which is very like the Thunder strike but no batteries :thumbsup2.

I'd recommend staying away from the Scatter Blaster. We had one and it started leaking immediately.

Thanks again! I think I'd like to avoid the battery scenario, so maybe I should look at the "Tornado Strike"? Could someone tell me what makes that particular model more fun?

Oh - one other thing.. Does the spray of water come out so hard that it might "sting" someone or feel uncomfortable if it hit them on the bare arm or back or something?

As you can tell, I'm really not "up to snuff" on my squirt guns.. Last one I had - around 55 years ago - could fit in the palm of my hand and only shot about an inch away from my body..:rotfl:

It can come out strong enough to sting, especially if the kids are really close to each other. ETA - We generally have rules about only shooting at the clothes to avoid this problem. They do have to be close too. If they are 5-10 feet away or so it's not strong enough to be a problem as long as they stick with the clothed areas.

The kids want the Thunderstorm because it's fully automatic. The other thing that makes it cool is that the water goes in via a "clip" which is removable and supposedly, according to my kids, you can buy extra ones but I didn't see them in stores. The clip and lack of batteries is why we went with the Tornado Strike. The Tornado Strike also has the capability of adding some of the interchangeable bits from the regular nerf guns. I found it on sale directly from Nerf with an additional free gun and a free extra clip. http://www.supersoaker.tv/Default.htm?hts=rdr-1311910136 or you can get it at Target or K-mart.

Thank you SO much! If that offer is still good, I think I'm going to go ahead and order it because I'm way up here in the mountains (no where near the department stores) and I like the idea of the other free gun (smaller - right?) and the free extra clip!! :thumbsup2

I really appreciate you supplying the link..:goodvibes

My kids all have these as well with extra clips. It is easier to fill the clips than the water gun and they have had a blast with them.

Oh and they have a second set we keep at a friend's house across town.

OP, you might want to check quickly with the childrens' parents before you purchase Super Soakers as a gift. I got into heck years ago for buying Super Soakers for DSIL's sons.

Thanks! :) It's already been approved - the parents were present during the conversation..

I wouldn't dream of purchasing any type of "gun" for a child without parental permission as I know quite a few parents who have a very strict "NO gun of ANY nature" rule.. It's their choice - and I respect that..
